Cannabis: 19 Yr Old Given Conditional Discharge

April 16, 2015

After pleading guilty to charges involving the possession of 15.38 grams of cannabis and a digital scale, a 19-year-old man was this morning [Apr 16] given a twelve month Conditional Discharge.

The man’s lawyer told the Magistrate that the nineteen year old had been hired by a local company who were in the process of sending him to the UK for training as a Heavy Equipment Mechanic.

The lawyer said that, today, the young man was accompanied to Court by his parents and the CEO of the company who had hired him.

Speaking to the Magistrate, the young man said: “I was stupid. I wasn’t thinking of consequences.”

The Magistrate said that the Social Inquiry Report had been very positive and that the support that was there for him from an employer and his parents, indicated that he was person who could be given a second chance.

The Magistrate then handed down the twelve month Conditional Discharge and ordered that the young man should abstain from alcohol and illegal drugs and participate in any anti-drug program set up by the Department of Court Services.

15 grams and a scale.. Yet guys get caught with a few joints and they get fined thousands of dollars.

Keep punishments the same for everybody.

A half ounce and a scale is obviously for selling.. Unless the scrub weighs his bud before he rolls them… Which is weird.

I’m all for legalix legalization and recreational use… But y’all possibly let off a dealer, yet you still fine the users.

How you gonna favor this person over the hundreds of other people brought before that same stand but with less..??

And some people are on “the stop list” for less!

He had a very good support system and I am all for youth with their life ahead of them with goals giving a second chance. Most of our youth smoke weed. I said ‘most’ not all. The laws need to change with getting caught with small amounts and especially a teenager with his education and life ahead of him. He has a goal and I’m sure he will complete his goal. I am happy for you young man and Good luck to your future. I also admire the CEO for going with him to court and of course his parents.
