Man Admits Stealing $28 Of Tenderloin Steak
Appearing in Magistrates Court this morning [Apr 22], 56-year-old Clyde Simons plead guilty to stealing two packets of tenderloin steak, valued at $28, from the Marketplace on Church Street on 21st April 2015.
Prosecutor Loxley Rickett told Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo that shop staff had observed Mr Simons at the meat counter and had seen him put two packets in his waistband. Mr Simons had then attempted to leave the store without paying.
Shop staff called the police and accosted Mr Simons. However he struggled and ran off but was caught, still on Church Street where he was arrested by police. At the police station Mr Simons admitted taking the two steaks and told Police: “But I was hungry.”
He also said he had no money and had no intention to pay.
The Magistrate ordered SIR and BARC reports, ordered him to attend Drug Treatment Court each week, and set sentencing for 11 June. Mr Simons was granted $1,000 bail.
