“You Belong To Me” Film To Screen On April 7th
The U.S. Consulate General and the Adult Library will showcase another film as part of the Bermuda National Library’s regular Consulate Night at the Library series. Coming to the Library at 6.00pm on April 7 will be “You Belong to Me,” a historical documentary produced by Jude Hagin and Hilary Saltzman.
“You Belong to Me” tells the story of Ruby McCollum, a well-do-do African-American woman living in Florida. On August 3, 1952, she walked into the office of white physician Dr. Clifford Leroy Adams and shot him dead.
The film explores the facets of the case, including possible reasons for the murder, during a period of U.S. history described as the Jim Crow South.

The film’s producer, Hilary Saltzman – the daughter of Harry Saltzman, who produced the first nine James Bond films – said of the documentary, “We hope this film is utilized…to educate and inspire others worldwide who find themselves in abusive situations to stand up for change.”
Consul General Settje commented, “I’d like to thank Hilary, who was a BIFF jurist this year, for sharing this new documentary with us. I am convinced all Bermudians will find it fascinating. As always, I’d like to thank Head Librarian Joanne Brangman and her staff for partnering with the Consulate to host these regular gatherings.”
Because of space limitations, only the first 70 people arriving at the library will be admitted. The film runs for 88 minutes. Consul Mila Millman will be there to lead a discussion following the film.
