CDD Bermuda To Host Dinner At Govt House
In its inaugural fundraising event, CDD Bermuda will have the honour of holding an intimate dinner, hosted by Governor George Fergusson and Mrs. Fergusson at Government House on Wednesday, June 3.
A spokesperson said, “Committed to empowering unemployed and underemployed women in the community, the Department of Human Affairs in conjunction with the Bermuda Women’s Council established the Community Driven Development [CDD] programme in 2013.
“Based on the first 2 years of results, the programme has unquestionably had a positive impact on its participants. The intention was always to transition the Government led programme to a charity supported by the community at large. On April 1st 2015 the programme was officially launched as the charity CDD Bermuda and must now rely on private fundraising efforts.

“The primary objective of this programme is to assist those on Financial Assistance to become financially independent and self-sufficient.
“CDD works with participants, in partnership with existing agencies and service providers, to overcome individual “barriers to employment” through specialized workshops, formal education, identifying and securing work-shadow opportunities and ultimately full-time employment.
“Participants who successfully complete the 12 month programme become “certified” and CDD then supports them with the ‘after-care’ programme to ensure they retain employment.
Juan Prado, Board Chairman of CDD Bermuda, says he is looking forward to the auspicious event: “I am excited not only about the upcoming dinner, but by the tremendous support we are already receiving from the community. I am pleased with the hard work that is being poured into this programme, because ultimately its success will have a positive impact on the people of Bermuda.”
Kendaree Burgess, Executive Director of the Chamber of Commerce adds, “The Chamber of Commerce is very pleased to have partnered with CDD. We recognise the need to match employment opportunities with employers and the need to lend support to that sector of our adult working population that struggles with the employment relationship for a variety of reasons.
“CDD is ideally positioned to bridge the gap between the two parties for the collective success of both. The event at Government House will provide the necessary funds to secure the success of the CDD programme and we wholeheartedly support their efforts and encourage the business community to get behind them and attend the event.”
Tickets are $500 each. Those interested in purchasing tickets are asked to RSVP by May 13 to Melique Cox at 296-0609. Corporate tables are available.
