Market Mall Fills Void In Western Parishes

June 23, 2015

What began as a simple fundraiser for the St. James Church Hall roof and stage has now become a venue for marketing vendors in the west end, as the Friends of St. James Sandys hosting its inaugural Market Mall over the recent National Heroes Day Holiday Weekend, with more than 25 vendors selling their goods.

A large variety of Bermuda products were on hand, including produce, specialty jams, art work, cedar works, crocheted garments, baked goods, and stuffed toys.

.

Warden and Chairman of the Friends of St. James Sandys Geoffrey Butler Durrant said, “The Market Mall provided a timely venue for vending marketers in the western parishes who have been desperate to find a suitable location for several months.

“The plans to host a vendors market at the Long Bay Beach facilities in Sandys have been shelved and so we thought it was important to offer a solution and the Rectory grounds were made available.”

The Market Mall is planned to be held on a quarterly basis to begin, then monthly, with the next Market Mall slated for October 2015.

It is good seeing such event being successful, yet I do have a question. That “unsightly building” along the main road leading into Somerset Village, its an eye sore. When will it be re-furbished or, torn down? It looks 3rd.worldish :-(
