Condolences Expressed: Death Of 23 Year Old
[Updated] Following the death of a 23-year-old Sandys man, both Premier Michael Dunkley and area MP Jamahl Simmons expressed their condolences, and encouraged witnesses or anyone with information to come forward and help bring the perpetrator to justice.
Late Tuesday night [July 21] an altercation took place on Woodlawn Road, resulting in a 23 year old Sandys Parish man being stabbed. The victim was taken to KEMH where he later died from his injuries.
Premier Dunkley said, “Our first thoughts are with the family of the young man who has so tragically lost his life.
“At this early stage in the investigation I join with others in calling for witnesses or anyone with information to contact the Police or the confidential Crimestoppers hotline.
“We do not yet have the confirmed circumstances of this terrible crime and so our focus as a community must be on comforting his family in their loss and assisting the police in their investigation.”
Area MP Jamahl Simmons said, “I am deeply saddened and angered to learn of the stabbing incident in my constituency. My condolences to the family and friends of the victim. Our prayers and thoughts are with you.
“I encourage the community to assist the Bermuda Police Service in bringing the perpetrator to justice.”
Police have asked the public, particularly in the Woodlawn Road area, if they witnessed an altercation between men or have any other information which may be of assistance, to contact police on 295-0011 or contact the confidential Crime Stoppers Hotline on 1-800-8477.
The police are holding a press briefing today where they are expected to provide additional information.
Update 11.50am: Shadow Minister of National Security Walter Roban said, “The PLP, like the rest of the island, was saddened and shocked to hear of the stabbing and eventual death of a young man in the White Hill area of the West End.
“Our condolences go out to the family of the young man and the residents of the White Hill area who are coming to terms with this incident in their community.
We echo the request that anyone who has any information to assist with this investigation to please cooperate with the authorities to bring justice and closure to this sad incident. It is important to remember that standing up against crime and acts of violence will only be successful if everyone plays their part.
“We once again offer our sincere condolences to family of the deceased.”
