Pacers Track Club Win Medals In Canada Meet

This past weekend, the Bermuda Pacers Track Club competed in the fifth Flying Angels International Classic Track Meet at Terry Fox Stadium in Canada. Of the 19 athletes competing, 17 were making their first appearance for the club at an international meet. At the conclusion of the meet, the athletes won 12 individual medals and 1 in the sprint medley relay.

Winning a gold medal were Jayden Cartwright and Dhulche DeSilva in the 8 and under and 9 and 10 boys and girls long jump respectively. Capturing silver medals were Jace Donawa, Chole Botelho and Sa’ Maya Lightbourne in the 8 and under and 9 and 10 boys and girls long jump. Lorrin Butterfield won a silver medal in the 11-12 boys 100 metres in a time of 13:05 sec and the 11-12 girls sprint medley relay capture silver.

In the 9-10 girls and boys division, Ramiah Brangman won a bronze medal in the 1500 meters in a time of 6:05.33, with Jesse Johnson winning two bronze medals in the 800 metres in a time of 2:50.30 and the 400 metres in a time of 1:14.30.

Jace Donawa added two more medals to his collection when he place 3rd in the 8 and under boys 100 and 200 metres. Lorrin Butterfield went on to collect his second medal when he won a bronze medal in the 11-12 boys 200 metres in a time of 27.03 sec. The club had a number of athletes that finished fourth and fifth in their respective event.

At the conclusion of the meet, the club was presented with a 4th place finish trophy after accumulating 127 points over the two day meet. This event attracted over 500 athletes which included countries such as Jamaica, Barbados, Germany, United States and Canada.

Next week Wednesday, senior members of the pacers track team will fly out to compete at the United Age Group Coach Association’s Track and Field Championships.

Coach Cal Simons said, “I was extremely pleased with the performances of the athletes, they represented themselves and the club really well. Two years ago when we attended this meet it was more development, however this years’ event was very competitive.”
