23 Students Receive $714,000 In Scholarships
Twenty-three Bermudian students have been chosen to receive Bank of Bermuda Foundation Scholarships worth a total of $714,000, with the scholarships ranging in value from $1,500 one time awards to scholarships valued at $30,000 per year for up to four years.
Sir John W. Cox Postgraduate Scholarship
A spokesperson said, “Andrew Fleming is the successful applicant for the Sir John W. Cox Postgraduate Scholarship, which is awarded annually to a Bermudian pursuing post-graduate education overseas and is valued at $30,000 per annum for up to four years. Andrew will be working towards a Masters of Letters, International Business, at the University of St. Andrews in Scotland.”
Eldon H. Trimingham MBA Scholarship
“Harry Masters is the successful applicant for the Eldon H. Trimingham MBA Scholarship, which is awarded annually to a Bermudian proceeding with M.B.A. studies overseas and is valued at $30,000 per annum for up to two years. Harry will be undertaking a joint Masters of Environmental Management at Duke University and a Master of Business Administration at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.”
Financial Services
“Katherine Arnfield is the successful applicant for this Financial Services Scholarship, which is awarded annually to a Bermudian in either their 3rd or 4th years of undergraduate studies and is valued at $20,000 per annum. Katherine will be pursuing a Bachelors of Business Administration at University of Kent in England.”
Centennial Trust Scholarships
“Shadae Steede is one of the successful applicants for the Centennial Trust Scholarships, which provides financial support of $12,000 per annum over a period not exceeding four years to a student pursuing undergraduate studies overseas on a full-time basis. Shadae is pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Trent University in Canada.
“Ryan Robinson is another of the successful applicants for this scholarship, undertaking his Law LLB at the University of Durham in England.”
Sir Henry Tucker Scholarship
“Noah Marshall is the successful applicant for the Sir Henry Tucker Scholarship, which is awarded annually to a Bermudian proceeding with undergraduate studies overseas and is valued at $30,000 per annum for up to four years.
“This scholarship is awarded to a student who has outstanding scholastic ability, leadership qualities, devotion to duty and fellowship together with athletic ability and cultural activity. Noah plans to complete a Bachelor of Science in Biological, Biomedical and Life Sciences at McGill University in Canada.
“Nicholas Pell, Daniel Hetzel and Lindsay Fisher are the three successful applicants for the education grants worth $8,000 per annum for a period not exceeding four years, awarded to the runners-up for the Bank of Bermuda Sir Henry Tucker Scholarship.
“Nicholas will be taking a degree in Mechatronic Engineering at the University of Manchester in England. Daniel will take a Bachelors of Arts in Philosophy, Politics and Economics at the University of Warwick in England. Lindsay plans to study medicine at University of Edinburgh in Scotland.”
Chairman’s Awards – Premier Award
“Asha Bicarie is the winner of the Premier Award, valued at $15,000 and Sinae Smith, Asha Trott, Amber Reid, Danae Lightbourn and Cree Lottimore are the successful runners-up who have been awarded $10,000 each. The awards provide financial support for one academic year to students studying overseas.”
“Asha is pursuing her Bachelors in Media, Information and Technoculture as well as Business Administration at the University of Western Ontario, Canada. Sinae will be taking a Bachelors in Mathematics and Actuarial Science at the University of Leicester, England.
“Asha will pursue a Bachelor of Food and Nutritional Sciences at the University of British Columbia in Canada. Amber will take a Bachelor of Science in Biology at Northeastern University in Boston, Massachusetts. Danae will complete a Bachelor in Advertising Communications/ Account Management at St. John’s University in New York.
“Cree will be working towards a Bachelors of Arts in Graphic Design at Sheridan College in Canada.”
Joseph C. H. Johnson Scholarship
“Kayla Virgil-Darrell is the 2015 Joseph C.H. Johnson scholar. This scholarship is valued at $30,000 per annum for up to 4 years. The purpose is to provide financial support to a student who is proceeding with undergraduate studies on a full-time basis at Bermuda College or an overseas university approved by Bank of Bermuda Foundation.
“Candidates are nominated by their school Principal and they must be willing to return to Bermuda on completion of their studies and render service to the community. Kayla will pursue a Bachelor of Science in Actuarial Science at St. John’s University, New York.”
Bank of Bermuda Foundation Joseph C.H. Johnson Nominee Awards
“James Amaral [Mount Saint Agnes], Zaren Bennett [Bermuda Institute], Ashlee Lambe [Bermuda High School], Zureena Rubaine [Saltus], Shalika Robinson [Berkeley Institute] and Cocy-Lynne Simmons [Warwick Academy] are the successful awardees and received $1500 each. To be eligible for this award, an individual must be nominated by their school Principal.
“James will be attending the University of New Hampshire to pursue a degree in Sports Studies. Zaren will attend Oakwood University in Alabama to study Biomedical Sciences. Ashlee will be attending the University of Toronto where she will be undertaking a Co-Op life Sciences program.
“Zureena will be studying for an Associates Degree at Bermuda College and plans to attend university overseas once this is completed. Shalika will be pursuing a Bachelor’s of Science in Biology at Barry University, Florida. Cocy-Lynne will attend the University of Liverpool studying for a Bachelor of Science with Honours in Anatomy and Human Biology.”
John D. Campbell Arts Scholarship
“Marquedelle Rodriguez is the recipient of the John D. Campbell Arts Scholarship valued at $30,000 per annum for up to 4 years.
“The Scholarship is specifically for candidates studying Visual, Performing and Applied Arts including, but not limited to Visual Arts, including drawing, painting, sculpture, ceramics, printmaking, photography, video and filmmaking; Performing Arts, including dance, music, opera and theatre; and Applied Arts, including architecture, industrial design, graphic design, fashion design, interior design and decorative art.
“Marquedelle is pursuing a Bachelors in Filmmaking at Whistling Woods International in Mumbai, India.”

This is very good news about supporting our homegrown talent. It would be nice to track the collective impact of this type of funding from the Bank of Bermuda Foundation over the years and identify where scholarship recipients are today.
I have no doubt their are many stories of how this type of funding helps Bermuda – year in year out.
