America’s Cup ‘Street Party’ Set For Next Month
Bermuda pride will be on full display next month during the Bermuda Festival within the Event Village at the Louis Vuitton America’s World Cup Series, the America’s Cup Event Authority [ACEA] said.
“The free event will take place from October 16 -18 with Front Street being transformed into a street party from Friday afternoon until Sunday evening,” the ACEA said.
“The festival will be distinctly Bermudian featuring dozens of food vendors, exhibitors, sailing, live commentary, fireworks, Dock Out and Dock In shows, a concert, kid activities, entertainers and more, showcasing the best the Island has to offer.
“Our Bermuda Festival is an event the whole family will enjoy. Daylight screens will be available to watch the races on land in the Fan Zone at Number One Parking Lot and the Food Court at Number Five Parking Lot. The Event Village is the best location on land to watch the finish of the final race on each day.
“The Fan Zone is the best venue for on shore viewing, as there will be live commentary and televised racing on the screen at the main stage. The Dock Out Show in the Fan Zone will give attendees access to the sailors and boats before the races. Following the races, there will be a Post-Race Talk Show where the sailors will be interviewed.
“Local entertainment for the weekend includes live music, dance groups, DJs and more to be released at a later date. Glenn Jones will be the Fan Zone MC for the weekend.”

“There will also be a happy hour event to kick off the Event Village on Friday, October 16 followed by the Opening Ceremonies and DJs spinning tunes.
“As part of the kids’ activities, the Endeavour Community Sailing Program will offer a sailing experience for children aged nine and up. There will also be fun castles, face painting and much more.
“Dozens of food concessions will be on hand offering the best of Bermudian street cuisine from chicken wings and fried fish to baked goods and snowballs. Multiple vendors will also sell uniquely Bermudian items including jewelry, spices, artwork and more.”

The festivities will begin on Friday, October 16 at 5pm and will close on October 18 at 6pm. Front Street will be closed from Court Street to Par-la-Ville during the two-and-a-half day event.

This needs to be clarified, as I understand the concert on the 17 th is a pay event $100 per ticket.

The Front Street Bermuda Festival zone will be open to all, but I believe the #1 parking lot Fan Zone will have an admission, and this is where the concert will be taking place. I can only speculate at how these will be separated but my thoughts are that the Fan Zone may be closed after the Dock Show to prep for the concert, and that the Fan Zone will be tented so they could close off viewing from the Front Street Zone during the concert.
Close the area all they want, you can’t stop the sound from traveling. There will be one giant tailgate party Bermuda style on the water if the weather is good.
Right on that account, however the schedule shows they will be closing the Front Street Festival area down an hour before the concert finishes, so you will have to move to a bar if you want to have a drink while you listen to the music. It will really come down to whether you want to listen to the concert for a little bit, or watch the concert
Boats cannot watch the concert. The AC45 catamarans will be moored in Hamilton harbour off the number 1 car park so police boats will be keeping people away. You can listen for free I guess but you just won’t be close enough to see anything.

Funny is right…tax money pays most of the bills for everything in Bermuda. Soon BTA will be claiming their sponsorship will bring in tourists and so on. The higher the debit the more Government wants residents to think they are getting something for free.

In fairness, PGA cost approx $26M and brought in est. $30M. AC35 will cost $50-$74M depending on how much sponsorship in found and is est. to bring in $250M. The multiplier for the PGA is poor and the Auditor General’s Port Royal Report did not cover the island with glory.
Ray, all I said was the Party is not free! The Party is for residents to feel good about the money the Government is risking on AC. Most residents pay taxes in one form or another to the Government. The Party is not free and residents need to support AC in hopes those monies you refer too do come into Bermuda. All Bermuda taxpayers have an investment in AC.

Are you talking about the 800million Bob Richards borrowed to last for 36 months but didn’t last 20 months ! You need to start asking your finance minister some serious questions . Oh! As an aside he borrowed the money when the interests rates was sky high compared to today .
Actually, they haven’t run out of that $800m yet, they got the $200m credit facility open for when they need it, as they are expecting to come up short of the original mark.
Please remind us how much the annual interest payments are on the inherited PLP debt balance per annum? The majority of what Bob HAD to borrow was to pay that expense after all.

Compare what visitor spending was last October with what it will be after this October. Tourism, sporting and cultural events funding has never been about bringing in revenues to Government, it has been about bringing revenues in to the economy as a whole. It’s the taxpayers that will benefit from this as people come here to spend on our services, that in turn spend those monies on other services and payroll, that in turn spend those monies on other services and payroll… and so on and so on.
Was wondering when the advertising was or is going to start. We have never seen an event in Bermuda like this before. And as far as the advertising and promoting goes been very quite.
