Tomas Amaral Wins Legal Education Award

Law firm Sedgwick Chudleigh Ltd. has announced that Tomas Amaral is the recipient of its 2015 Legal Education Award, and that he has received the full award amount of $10,000 for the second year in a row.

Mr. Amaral is entering his third and final year of the LL.B. program at the University of Kent in Canterbury, in the UK. He was also recently elected President of the Law Students Association of Bermuda.

Managing Partner, Mark Chudleigh said: “We remain impressed by Tomas’ academic performance, and his demonstrated commitment to the areas of practice that are the focus of our firm. It is unusual for us to make an award to a student for two consecutive years.

“However, Tomas proved to be an exceptionally strong candidate, and the scholarship committee was keen that we recognize his continuing educational achievements and extracurricular pursuits.”

Sedgwick Chudleigh’s Legal Education Award is given each year to the applicant enrolled in a law degree course [including the Legal Practice Course or the Bar Professional Training Course] who demonstrates an in interest in, and aptitude for, pursuing a career in insurance law and/or civil litigation, as well as the desire to ultimately return to practice law in Bermuda.

Mr Chudleigh said, “The Sedgwick Chudleigh Education Award demonstrates our commitment to Bermuda, and to the development of young Bermudian talent”.

The firm is affiliated with the international law firm Sedgwick LLP. It serves both local and international clients, and is actively engaged in advising on contentious commercial, employment, public law, planning, trust and insolvency matters. Its lawyers are also recognized for their expertise in resolving insurance and reinsurance disputes.
