October 15, 2015

Endeavour Day was held today [Oct 15] with the official opening of the east end facility of the America’s Cup Endeavor Community Sailing Program, with a number of activities taking place throughout the event.

Students from local schools were invited to help celebrate the event, which featured an opening ceremony, an Endeavour race, a Bermuda Pilot Gig exhibition race, and a race in traditional Bermuda fitted dinghies with America’s Cup sailors competing against a Bermudian team.

Regatta viewing took place at two locations, including Ordnance Island and the T.S. Admiral Somers Building, with audio piped between the two venues. There was also a display of the Endeavour boats on Ordnance Island, with additional sailing activities.

Thank you, Sir Russell Coutts and all involved. Significant progress on the promised legacy of Americas Cup. We need more of this type of comprehensive collaboration between public and private school administration’s – focused on bringing together all our children for the benefit of Bermuda. This type of coordination attracts and invites significant funding.

It looked like a wonderful afternoon for everyone in St. Georges. Wish I could have been there to see the children sailing with the pros, and especially to see the AC sailors handling our Bermuda Fitted Dinghies! Hopefully they had a ball! Great to see the Bermuda Pilot Gig out there too – that looks like really hard work!
