“In 2015, 387 Bermudian students were studying in the United States, the second study- abroad destination for Bermudian students following the UK.

“The top U.S. host institutions for Bermudians are New England Institute of Technology, Johnson and Wales University, Barry University, and Flagler College. Florida hosts 19% of Bermudian students, and Rhode Island hosts 11%.”

“The growth in international students confirms that the United States remains the destination of choice in higher education.

“The U.S. hosts more of the world’s 4.5 million globally mobile college and university students than any other country in the world, almost double the number hosted by the United Kingdom, the second leading host country.”

“International students now constitute almost five percent of the more than 20 million students enrolled in U.S. higher education, up from around four percent in previous years.”

  1. I heart 441 says:

I expect this number to decrease within the next 10 years due to many US institutions raising their tuition rate significantly. Many students are not aware that some European Universities are tuition free, however with the US a close proximity to Bermuda, their universities will still have many Bermudians studying there.

    • Reality says:

Which European Universities are tuition free? I would love to complete my Masters!

      • I heart 441 says:

I think Germany and a few of the Scandinavian countries

      • X says:

If you are Bermudian, then you will qualify as a British student. One of the very good reasons Bermuda should never be independent !

    • Joe says:

US universities have also greatly raised aid. Only the wealthy pay full price. With financial aid, US schools can be cheaper tha elewhere and are generally a much better choice if someone wants to work in the US at some point.

      • I heart 441 says:

International students don’t qualify for financial aid I believe.

  2. navin johnson says:

the only way a US student would be here is living with their family….

  3. Kennette 'Island Empress' says:

Glad to see Bermudians are taken part in the OPT Work program to enhance their resumes and work experience before returning home if they choose to.
