Sunday December 6th: “Good News” Spotlight

News that Bermuda was featured on the National Geographic television series ‘Unseen Islands,’ Dame Pamela Gordon-Banks was honoured by the “Girl Be Heard” organisation in New York City, and the Bermuda Boys Brigade and the Church Girls’ Brigade raised $1,100 for charity with a car wash were all some of the positive news stories from the past week.

Additional good news included WindReach Bermuda profiling some of the participants in their programme as they celebrated the United Nation’s International of Day of Persons with Disabilities, Chewstick bringing live music to Bermuda on Friday nights, Saltus students raising funds for an expedition to Nepal, and the Berkeley Institute staging Broadway’s ‘Peter Pan’ and hosting their prize-giving.

In other good news stories, the Bermuda Society of Arts revealed their video competition winners, Wolfpack Hoops will be visiting the island to work with female basketball players, two overseas magazines featured Bermuda, and Air Care donated $1,000 to the ‘Toys for Tots’ initiative.

Rounding out the week’s good news, Argus Group donated $10,000 to the Bermuda Mental Health Foundation, Butterfield was named by ‘The Banker’ as the Bank of the Year in Bermuda and the Cayman Islands, the ‘Stuff the Bus’ campaign got underway on the island, and local artist Marion MacPherson presented a replica doll to Hamilton Town Crier Ed Christopher.

We also posted various community photo galleries, including coverage of rugby, field hockey, Berkeley’s performance of Peter Pan, CedarBridge Academy’s Pro Shop Fair, the Santa Claus Parade, Lighting of the Town’ in St. George’s, Lifestyles store opening, Home-Grown Alternatives craft show, BNT Christmas Walkabout and Santa’s visit to the east end.
