Photos: Ismay Steede Celebrates 100th Birthday
St George’s Square was the scene of celebration this afternoon [Jan 9] as people gathered to celebrate Ismay Anderson Steede’s 100th birthday,
Her great-granddaughter, Senator Renee Ming, said, “We are here this afternoon to celebrate the life of my great-grandmother, Ismay Anderson Steede. As you can see, it’s a very festive environment, and she turning 100 on Tuesday. We are here today to celebrate her life, her family, and everything…her legacy.
“Just to give you a brief background, my granny had 12 children. As a result of that, we now have 43 grandchildren, 48 great-grandchildren, and 24 great-great-grandchildren,” Senator Ming said.
“We are very happy that God has blessed her with 100 years on this earth, I think you and I both know that that’s something that not many people get to see. But she has. She is a walking book of knowledge and history.”

Ms Steede — who said her favourite drink is Dark & Stormy — said, “I’m so happy to be here today. I’m feeling very good so far. All this crowd surprised me, I never expected this. Like I said, first time for everything!”
Following in step with the fact that Ms Steede’s favourite beverage is a Dark & Stormy, suppliers of Goslings Black Seal sponsored a tent with free beverages for all including Black Seal Rum or their newly announced Gold Seal Rum.
There were many other sponsors that contributed to the event with prizes being donated for the raffles as well as the bingo games played throughout the afternoon.

What a milestone, sad to see that all that her generation fought and struggled for is slowly been stripped away.
This is such a fitting tribute to such a wonderful woman,I can remember Mamma Steede going back most of my life. Reflecting on her witty personality and her morals and values as a true Bermudian, that stood for what is right no matter what.
Happy Birthday Mamma Steede and this is such a fitting tribute that you so well deserve. To the family and all who organised such a beautiful event, we say well done, and Thank You Bernews for highlighting our treasures that we still have among us.

What a beautiful story!! I had a chuckle reading that Mrs. Steede’s favourite drink is a Dark & Stormy, maybe there’s hope for me after all LOL!!
