‘Criminal Acts Against Business Establishments’
“The PLP supports all steps being taken by the retail industry to combat what appears to be a rise in criminal acts against business establishments in recent months,” Shadow Minister of Home Affairs Walter Roban said, adding that “we are all alarmed at the robbery attempts on a variety of businesses in the year 2015 and this has unfortunately carried over into early 2016.”
Crimes against businesses in recent weeks have included the robbery of the gas station in Crawl, the armed robbery at Flatts gas station, the attempted robbery of Empire Grocery on North Shore, the robbery at Four Star Pizza in Warwick, the armed robbery at Southside Pizza House and the robbery at KFC in Hamilton.
Mr Roban said, “The business community working with law enforcement to combat the rise must result in more effective protection to property, personnel and staff. Any further deterioration of this situation will not inspire consumers or workers to feel safe.
“‘The following steps may also go far to raise the level of safety and security
- “1] Further widening of the CCTV coverage to higher traffic retail business areas inside and outside the City of Hamilton
- “2] Police providing consultation to both small and large retail business on effective security measures to enhance overall security
- “3] Opportunities for security review services available to large and small retail businesses
- “4] Groups of businesses consider pooling resources to retain private security support
- “5] Training to staff of businesses to spot security concerns and potential circumstances that might lead to a robbery
- “6] Neighbourhood businesses building a open line of communication with Community Action Teams
- “7] The Chamber of Commerce and other business groups should organize a Security Subcommittee to assess, if any, the security needs of their members and also provide advice to non member businesses.
“It is clear that this increase of crime is directly related to the poor economic conditions that continue to plague our country, coupled with a government who have no clear vision to address the people’s suffering.
“It is important for the business community to work with the Bermuda Police Service and all the strategic partners in the security industry to generate possible solutions.
“Preventative and proactive steps in response to this rise in criminal activity around business is the best way to ensure safety of property, staff and consumer confidence is preserved,” concluded Mr Roban.

So we are in this economic mess why? To bad the previous govt didn’t think ahead when spending the people’s money. Now you want to tell the present govt what they should be doing.
So Walter Roban is with the support of bussiness ; yet his fellow member of the PLP supports civil disobedience!! No wonder the PLP are all falling apart .Tell the true you all a bunch of hipocrits… just because you ware a suit and tie your no different

True but it/they area strong deterrent and capture much.
I think the Plp and Hanbury should team up. They’re in it for the money.
All nice verbal pablum. Everything except penalties to fit the crime. It would be nice to put the stocks back in use but there would be protests of inhumanity.
How about the criminal acts of some of these businesses on the public? With the outrageous cost of everything like groceries etc. I’m just asking.
The Sheeple don’t even realize that this is a stepping stone for cameras to be located everywhere, keeping an all seeing eye on every move we make. Gradualism is what this method is. Thesis=armed robberies/crime.
Anti-thesis= more cctv cameras.
We need better leaders to care about Bermuda’s future
If anyone hurts one of these criminals… even if it’s a victim or police…there will be a cry for justice… oh poor criminal…. let’s take to the streets and protest. The victims never get justice just pity for the criminals here especially when momma come crying.
