Bermuda One Of “World’s Friendliest Islands”
Bermuda has been ranked as one of the “world’s friendliest islands” by Travel + Leisure in their 2016 World’s Best Awards survey, with the publication quoting Mark Twain’s observation of Bermuda as “that happy little paradise.”
The article says, “Even Mark Twain—who called this British territory his second home at the end of his life—was a fan of the people here, an island he called ‘that happy little paradise.’
“Before he died, he said, ‘You go to heaven if you want to – I’d rather stay right here in Bermuda.’ You can’t go wrong staying at the flamingo-pink Fairmont Hamilton Princess, where afternoon tea is served in the Heritage Court.”
This latest endorsement of the island follows after Rosewood Tucker’s Point was awarded the 2016 Forbes Travel Guide Four-Star Award, marking the first time the ranking has been bestowed upon the hotel, and making it the only property in Bermuda to receive the ranking this year.
Similarly, Horseshoe Bay Beach was recently named as one of the top 25 beaches in the world by Trip Advisor, with the Southampton beach called “picturesque, with pink sand and gentle waves rolling in.”
The island was a whole was also recently recognized by Forbes’ Travel Guide with an entry in their list of “16 Top Destinations For 2016,” as well as Business Insider’s “21 incredible luxury destinations you should visit in 2016″ list, with one publication saying “if you’re looking for a relaxing getaway, look no further than Bermuda.”
That is ironic given the haters on the street yesterday and the desire to amend our human rights to include an “except for”.
Other than that we are really friendly….I guess.
People like you would change the way Others think about Bermudians, that is why I say no no no to the immigration new ideas.
We were the fruendliest Island in de 77 riots and de ’81 strike, nothing new.
Just because we”re nice dont mean you can treat us like S!@# and expect us to do nothing.
MLK was nice too.
Mmmmmmmm
Sheesh man.. why you so d*mn angry all the time?!
You need to make yaself some Beanie Brew and relax a bit..cha
Um just returning de favour with all de negativity when de other guys where in.
Its called de Glass House Syndrome
LMFAO
untrue, aceboy. They are a part of the success of this country. Don’t you forget that.
In a democracy, one has the right to freedom of speech. You have made your point and they make theirs.
You are not a friendly person. Your point has proven that.
You want what you want and they want what they want.
Got it??
DON’T take our kindness for weakness.. we welcome tourism and people from all over the world. But be reminded – it is OUR HOME in which many are welcome guests….not entitled.
Because only Bermudians are entitled!
If the immigration change was to pass – there will be no more “real” Bermuda.
It will Divide Bermuda even further.
What a load of rubbish. Real Bermuda? What exactly is that?
The people that will still live here If the country clasped or was invaded. That is realy Bermuda.
People that have will and option to bailout should not be given the right to vote.
I for one hope the country doesn’t “clasp” any time soon…:)
So nobody votes then seeing as Bermudians can bail out to the UK.
Maybe all Brits should have the option to bail out here.
I am sure as hell not staying if Bermuda “clasp”! I am Bermudian and I barely want to stay here now, fellow Bermudians are an embarrassment.
You are not an ACE BOY.
Ace BOYS are really level-headed, FRIENDLY people who have an abundance of love, kindness and friendship towards their fellow countryman.
You use the words ACE BOY but it does not comply to your “attack” on Bermudians who want what they want!!!
Then going off your hateful posts you also don’t qualify as an ‘ace boy’ either.
@ aceboy, what is a Real American, Canadian, South African, Australian, etc…..?
Tic Toc
LMFAO
So by your own logic a “real bermudian” is an african then. Got it
The fact you’re even asking that in the first place says a lot about you.
No it won’t … what 100 to 200 people who are already here.
Educate yourself and stop listening to the PLP.
Sounds like they’re not the only one who needs to be educated…
This is not 100 to 200 people who are already here. This applies to ALL non-Bermudians here on work permits. The AG thinks this will be at least 200 people per year…
I don’t understand people with a chip on their shoulder. In your attempt to knock it off you swat everyone around you even the innocent passer by who could care less. You want everyone to empathize with your plight and struggle but you give no thought to others.
Just remember most of us are squirrels trying to get a nut. Who you feel marginalized by is the same self serving 1% that keep the rest of us down with you. Ease up on your fellow man you might find more allies in the fight of inequity and injustice.
You no aceboy, what does the protest yesterday have to do with being friendly, so very small minded, cause its the real bermuidanes are very friendly, iv heard enough tourist say why do they have foreigners working in our serving service with food, and when asked a question they can’t answer, cause they don’t understand, from taxi drivers, to sales person, everyone is very friendly, how about when you came here, didn’t you say the exact thing.what changed have rights, or want rights.
I’ve never really noticed many friendly Bermudians. Sorry but I don’t consider speaking to everyone when coming into a room and strangers getting in my personal business being friendly.
I welcome your comments……..
Bermudians are friendly and it’s not just about speaking when you come into a room or in passing on the street. Yeah, we get vocal, and have strongly different opinions and express them in some questionable ways at times, but at the heart of most Bermudians is a good person who will go out of their way to help others, who’ll talk and laugh and include anyone who is open to engagement.
If you’re not encountering this, well, maybe you’re spending time around the wrong people, or in the wrong places, or you’re just coming off as standoffish without meaning to.
I was just in the pharmacy today, in an aisle looking for an item when an older man came through my field of vision without even an “excuse me”.
I could have just stood there and waited for it, but that’s not my nature – if I see someone about to pass I just automatically move out of that person’s way.
In this world were negativity and pessimism sweep the globe in a minute, this is great news.
What a joke! Long ago was the friendly Bermuda. I’m Bermudian, lived here my whole life. Years ago we use to welcome foreigners and tourists with welcome arms and now we treat them with such disrespect even though we NEED their money. We need to seriously wake up, before us ‘die hard Bermudians’ are left with only the crickets and toads on this rock.
Funny thing, I’ve been to several places that were apparently Mark Twain’s second home. SanFransisco for example.
Please note he did in fact die, but did not show up here to do it as he said he would. Perhaps he was Bermudian after all and got a foreigner to do it for him.
Friendly? Yeah right! If he was here now, we’d be telling him to get cracking!! Bermuda does not want foreigners here. Ask the PLP.
I am Bermudian. That’s what I am.
I care a great deal about Bermuda. I have as much if not more to lose if this island fails as you do.
Make no mistake, we can still fail…miserably. You fools keep preventing growth on this island and it will happen. Stop being led around by those who truely do not care what happens as long as they are in charge.
Ya describing U.B.P. too a T.
LMFAO
No, no I am not. The only reason you don’t want these people to stay in Bermuda is because you know they wouldn’t vote for your bunch. They are too intelligent for that.
Someone once posted: “They would burn the whole place down if it meant they could be king of the ashes” which I thought say it all
Once upon a time in Bermuda – visitors and ex-pats came and left the island.
Now they want to stay forever and claim rights.
GO back from whence you came and claim rights in your own home country.
Same could be said about Bermudians living and working in other countries!
You’d be surprised at how few expats want to stay beyond a couple of years.
And we could say the same about the “real bermudians”
we were much friendlier until the early nineties before we were heavily exposed to the western way of life,
we have been poisoned
You had better go back further than that.
you mean exposed to the PLP leadership, particularly the vengeful Brown years where hate and antagonism was served almost daily
What it gets down to is Bermudians like to think they are the friendliest people in the world. In practice it is not so, and it is entitled Bermudians endlessly patting themselves on the back.
In fact nowadays Bermuda welcomes practically nobody. One day you just might get the island you want with no foreigners here and no more arriving. Perhaps then you’ll be happy. You can print loads of money and give it away – and all be millionaires!!
Well said!!
Hellooooo!!
NO! What it gets down to is that Travel + Leisure in their 2016 World’s Best Awards survey states that Bermudians are some of the friendliest people in the world.
So in fact your opinion just equates to :poop:
Bermudians are really friendly as long as you have your return flight booked.
This friendliness myth is so wrong it made me suck my teeth.
We are a divided nation, been that way for over 100 years.Just get used to it !
Let’s be real for the price RTP should be five-star that is what Trippe built. Bermuda has been known as one of the “friendliest destinations” for more than a hundred years. Bermuda beaches have been top-ranked for more than a hundred years too. DOT and BTA dropped a few dollars or a few free visits, Bermuda gets a mention but did it fill any more plane seats?? We need to see results on the island not just a mention in magazines.
