Over 100 People ‘Going Bald’ To Raise Money

March 17, 2016

On March 18th over 100 people at Saltus are having their heads shaved to raise funds for childhood cancer research funded by the St. Baldrick’s Foundation including scores of Primary and Secondary students; Head of School Ted Staunton; teachers Rosie Doughty, Jesse Sheppard, Brittany Adams and Kathy Kawaley; as well as a number of parents.

In addition, several are having their hair cut and donating it to Locks of Love  which is a nonprofit organization providing hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children suffering from longterm medically related hair loss.

According to BCHC’s Executive Director Tara Curtis, $48,000 of the funds raised at all St. Baldrick’s events held in Bermuda are specifically used to support BCHC’s SunSmart Programme.

A spokesperson said, “There will also be a ‘wacky hat/hair’ grub day, plus sales of milk and popcorn in Primary to benefit this cause. As of March 15th, Saltus shavees have raised over $160,000 and counting.

“All of this would not be possible without the volunteer barbers who are donating their time and talents to this event: Headway–Hope Travis; The Hideaway — Lisa Froud; LIV–Lucy Camara; Strands — Kira Swan and Shapri Joell; Tangles Hair — Louise Burdett; and TK Hair — Tanju Kurt, Lindsey Matthews, Kemal Topal, James Lee.”
