Energy Tycoon McClendon Dies In Car Crash
Energy tycoon Aubrey McClendon, the former CEO of Chesapeake Energy, has died following a single-car accident in Oklahoma, just days after anti-trust charges against him were announced by federal investigators.
Mr. McClendon had a connection to the island, having purchasing a property in the Tucker’s Town area.
A report on the accident said, “Former Chesapeake CEO Aubrey McClendon built Chesapeake Energy into one of the nation’s largest independent producers of natural gas, accumulating a fortune that helped him buy part of the Oklahoma City Thunder.”
“But McClendon also drew the scrutiny of federal investigators, who announced anti-trust charges against him on Tuesday. Sixteen hours later, McClendon, 56, was dead in a fiery single-car traffic accident on an isolated road in northeast Oklahoma City.
“Oklahoma city police captain said McClendon was speeding and not wearing a seat belt, but it is too early to tell if the collision was intentional.”
