May 20, 2016

Bermuda 2000, operators of the RUBiS Causeway Service Station, said have been appointed the exclusive distributor in Bermuda for NOsquito, a product they said is designed to help combat the spread of the Zika virus, and other vector diseases spread by mosquito.

Graeme Hagen, Owner of Bermuda 2000 said: “With the spread of the ZIKA virus throughout our region, and the corresponding travel and health advisories from the World Health Organisation [WHO], the Centre for Disease Control [CDC] and our own Ministry of Health, it is important that Bermudians take precautions when they travel, especially to countries that have confirmed cases.

Mr. Hagen added: “The below map released by the CDC shows the areas of the world with reported active transmissions and on the the CDC website it says: On January 22, 2016, CDC activated its Incident Management System and, working through the Emergency Operations Center [EOC], centralized its response to the outbreaks of Zika occurring in the Americas and increased reports of birth defects and Guillain-Barré syndrome in areas affected by Zika.

“On February 1, 2016, the World Health Organization declared a Public Health Emergency of International Concern [PHEIC] because of clusters of microcephaly and other neurological disorders in some areas affected by Zika. On February 8, 2016, CDC elevated its response efforts to a Level 1 activation, the highest response level at the agency.
