BHB Quit Smart Smoking Cessation Programme

May 3, 2016

Cigarette smoking is a preventable obstacle to good health, and when you quit smoking, you significantly reduce your risks of developing a myriad of illnesses, including lung and heart disease.

As part of recognizing World Asthma Week, the Bermuda Hospitals Board is reminding the public they offer a programme to help those who want to quit the habit. The Quit Smart programme is conducted by MWI Clinical Psychologist Cherita Rayner and has been running since March 2009.

“It’s a four-week programme and typically we offer it at the Turning Point Substance Abuse Programme, but we’ve also run it at the DREAM [Diabetes Respiratory Endocrine and Metabolism] Centre,” said Dr Rayner.

“The programme uses cognitive behavioural strategies to assist the individual in learning to be a non-smoker. It addresses smoking on three levels: the addiction, the habit and the emotional connection to smoking.”

Quit Smart is offered every month in group sessions, but individual sessions can also be scheduled. Group sessions are 90 minutes and individual sessions are 60 minutes. The $150 course is available to any member of the public and includes a manual, a relaxation CD and a cigarette substitute.

For more information and details of how to register for Quit Smart email quitsmart@bhb.bm or call 239- 2038.

I will not tell you how or even to stop smoking.

Frankly , I don’t much care if you smoke or not, its your problem not mine.

May be you could save your own life, if you think that is worth saving, that is if you are not sick already, if you are, why quit ! if not, May be there is a small chance you may survive the addiction.

It is all a big fat lie that the smokers live.

However , I can show you the do and don’t way how you can be rid of the problem to go on with what is left of you.

Your big problem is that it has to be your own decision you have to want to be rid of cigarettes for the rest of your natural life, hopefully, before it is too late.

I have to tell it like it is up front and in your face and personal.

If I did it, so can you.

    I am the winner !
