BHCS & Brown Darrell To Host ‘Docs For Dinner’

Bermuda HealthCare Services and Brown-Darrell Clinic will be hosting their quarterly “Docs for Dinner” event on Tuesday June 21, 2016 at Café Lido.

The guest speaker is Alicia Stovell-Washington, M.D., M.B.A.; A healthcare entrepreneur, a hospital governance specialist and dedicated healthcare provider.

Over thirty doctors are expected to attend the presentation and receive two Continuing Medical Education credits.

Dr. Stovell-Washington earned her Medical Degree and University Hospital Internal Medicine Internship Certificate from Stony Brook University. She completed her Ophthalmology training at Cook County Hospital and became a Fellow of the American Board of Ophthalmology. Recently, she earned a Master of Business Administration degree from The University of Chicago Booth School of Business.

Her professional career began by serving as a physician for Humana Health Plans and continued on as a partner of a multi-office practice with the first and largest Ophthalmology capitated agreement in Chicago.

In 2003, she took her talents to Bermuda. She has served as a board member of the Bermuda Health Council, led the medical community as president of the Active Staff, and was appointed to the executive committee charged with governing the development of the Bermuda National Health Plan.

In 2010, her team was first responders to the earthquake that devastated Haiti. In 2014, Dr. Stovell-Washington was appointed member of the Bermuda Hospitals Board and also became Chair of Clinical Governance Committee and member of the Executive Committee.

Continuing her global passion to make a difference, through the Hispanic Wealth Initiative her team reviewed and assessed the determinants of wealth which include health, financial literacy and education. Today, she collaborates with other vision advocates for a Bermuda Diabetic Screening program.

A dynamic speaker and serial health care entrepreneur she has built several innovative businesses from surgery centers to web health coaching to medical app development and also serves as a principal in a global initiative to improve worldwide health care. She continues to be an energetic physician with a dedication to unlock potential in individuals and communities by creating opportunity through strategy.

Registration and cocktails for “Docs for Dinner” will begin at 6:30 pm, dinner will begin at 7:00 pm, with presentations to follow.
