September 7, 2016

The 2016 Paralympic Games Opening Ceremony is taking place this evening [Sept 7] in Rio, with Bermuda’s team — dressed in our traditional Bermuda shorts — entering the stadium behind flag-bearer Jessica Lewis.

The island is being represented by two athletes at these Games: Jessica Lewis is making her second Paralympic appearance for Bermuda and will compete in the 100m, 400m and 800m; while Yushae Desilva-Andrade is making her Paralympic debut and will compete in Boccia.

The 2016 Paralympic Games will take place from September 7-18 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, with approximately 4,350 athletes from 165 countries set to take part.
