Photos: Car Collides Into Barrier And Motorcycles
Emergency services responded to Victoria Street outside of City Hall Parking Lot at approximately 1.45pm this afternoon [Sept 6] where it appears a car had collided with the new exit barrier to the parking lot and coming to a stop on the adjacent sidewalk, pointed in the opposite direction.
There were a number of motorcycles that were knocked over, apparently as a result of the crash. Bermuda Fire and Rescue Service personnel tended to a man leaning on a nearby wall while bystanders held an umbrella above. The ambulance subsequently left without a patient.
Police were on scene taking reports from the man and what appeared to be riders of the affected bikes. No further details were available, however we will update as able.

How?????
Name and birth date MATE!
“I SAID I AM NOT PAYING FOR PARKING!!!!”
They had an “overcoming” when trying to exit the car park. I think the design should have included tire wrecking spikes to deter someone from trying to drive through the barrier.
Or I could be wrong.
Free exit tomorrow?
So tempting to take those idiotic gates out. Well done. They must be losing a fortune on that parking lot. in addition to the expense and loss of revenue over the slow “redesign”.
How much has it cost?
people are now paying for parking. previously they weren’t. how can this result in them losing a fortune?
remember, if people were honest and not abusing the system, there would have been no need for barriers
Unfortunately those that were previously not paying parking have simply moved elsewhere, and are still not paying for parking, hence the half empty car park. Unless parking tickets are enforced, you would need these barriers on every car park and all street parking in order for this to work.
Actually from what I was able to learn the city is actually making more money from motorists parking there now with the car park a third empty. The problem before was while it was full many were not paying for the parking. Since all avenues to re-establish the laws concerning enforcement seem to be closed ( for reasons not yet explained) the installation of a barrier system was the obvious next step.
I do not know what it cost but according to figures printed in articles out of city hall, the city is losing hundreds of thousands of dollars annually because of no enforcement capabilities.
If you think efforts to simply get paid for services rendered is idiotic then you have an interesting perspective on life.
If that is the case it is shameful. I am whole heartedly in favor of paying for public services through proper taxation, especially income tax, capital gains tax etc. The failure of City Hall to enforce (no need to clamp) and go to this expense and inconvenience, seems extreme. But this isn’t merely paying for public services it’s paying for the looting of $18m. I pity the tax paying businesses in town.
I would assume if the corporation was able to clamp vehicles then the gates would of never of had to be installed and parking fees raised. I understand just some simple legislation needs to be passed in government. The city needs to make money especially with America’s Cup coming and I would assume parking is a huge part of their revenue intake. it is also one’s social responsibility to pay to park.
Hope you got tour $81 worth
