Resolution Reached In Corrections Dispute

The Ministry of National Security advised this evening [Sept 14] that “a resolution has been reached regarding the impasse with Westgate Correctional Facility Corrections Officers”.

A Ministry spokesperson said, “The Commissioner of Corrections, Lt. Col. Eddie Lamb notified the Ministry earlier this evening that following a productive meeting between management and the Prison Officers Association a resolution has been reached regarding the issues raised.

“An Action Plan to address the matters will be put into place and it is expected that officers will return to their normal duties at the Westgate Correctional Facility tomorrow morning.”

Meanwhile, in extending his thanks and appreciation to both sides this evening for bringing the impasse to a conclusion, the Minister of National Security, Sen. Jeffrey Baron said, “Both sides were committed to open and frank dialogue and should be supported in the way in which they have approached these discussions.

“The Ministry will support the Commissioner and the Prison Officers Association in the implementation of the items from the Action Plan.”
