Waste Collection Changes Ahead Of Nicole
The Ministry of Public Works, Waste Management Section, is advising the public that it is working until 6.00pm today [Oct 11] to collect waste in the east end, while waste in the west end should not be put out until further notice.
A spokesperson said, “Should your household waste not be collected by 6pm today, please secure it for the duration of the storm.
“West end garbage should not be placed out for collection until the Ministry makes further announcements about resumption of collection services.
“All recycling services have been suspended for this week and are rescheduled for next Thursday in the west end and Friday in the east.
“Roads permitting, crews may resume normal waste collections on Monday. The Ministry will make further announcements as soon as possible.
“It is important to not only secure valuables, but also to secure waste items as these can become hazards during the storm and can add to the clean-up post-hurricane.”
“As an additional storm-related notice, the public is advised by the Department of Community and Cultural Affairs that the Seniors Seminar Mosaic Performance scheduled to take place this Thursday at The Centre has been postponed.”

Is Pembroke East or West?
Pembroke is considered to be part of the EAST so all residents of Pembroke should put trash out for collection today, however if it is not picked up by 6 pm….please bring it back inside and store it for the duration of the hurricane. If you have to bring your trash back in, you may want to use ant spray and if needed, to re-bag (double-bag) the trash if the bag has holes in it. Stay safe everyone!
Oh great! So despite trash being down first thing Tuesday morning, and them not making it here, we have to go down a pick up our now soggy and perhaps critter infested stuff… oh but wait – also have to expect neighbours will collect theirs too, which may be piled on yours since you have to take it to drop off at end of road. Oh – and if it doesn’t get picked up by them (and self), it will definately blow up and to the end of the road as stuff always does when windy, so will be picking up neighbour’s trash whether you like it or not. Sigh! Why couldn’t they get to everyone that was scheduled for pick up today??
Time to freaking privatize the trash collection. No reason they couldn’t collect the trash in one day! I am with you on this one. We also have one collection/drop off point on our cul-de-sac and that shit is going to be everywhere come Friday morning!
They dont have de trucks to keep up with de demand and to get more trucks is not in de budget.
Well at least we have funds for America’s Cup.
Great example to our visitors and AC big-wigs! SMH…
Anything for a bit of overtime!
Absolutely no reason why these guys can’t collect all the trash from the designated areas in one day. Shouldn’t even take an entire work day.
The residents of Pembroke (Spanish Point side and North Shore west of Langton Hill) would just to know why the hell the garbage was not collected yesterday (Tuesday). Everyone got their trash out on time yesterday morning and yet the trash from North Shore all the way to Spanish Point is still sitting out on the road – or in some cases is no strewn across the road. We have one collection point on our road and there are about 9 trash bags still sitting there this morning. This is unacceptable. Time to privatize trash collection in this country.
Same with Parsons Rd. But ridiculous because you would think being they are central it would be done in the morning.
The trash on the East end still has not been collected from yesterday – this is definitely unacceptable. Conditions are completely fine right now for the trucks to be out getting last minute trash off the roads! Once the storm comes, trash is going to be everywhere and left to fester… disgusting!
I agree with my fellow Bermudians, why wasn’t the trash picked up yesterday? A hurricane is approaching and the trash is going to be all over the street. This is ridiculous,I hope they keep their word and have it picked up by six,if not this is going to be a disaster. This is an on going problem every week.
Yet the trucks are on the road long after 5pm, sounds like a ploy for more overtime!
