Constituency #26 By-Election On December 20

November 15, 2016

The Acting Governor has issued a writ for the by-election in Constituency 26 Warwick South Central, which is set to take place on December 20th.

The statement said, “The Parliamentary Registrar advises the public that, Her Excellency Mrs. Ginny Ferson, Acting Governor has issued a writ of election for the bye-election to take place in Constituency 26 Warwick South Central.

“Polling day for the Bye-election will take place on 20 December 2016. The polling place will be St. Mary’s Church Hall, Warwick. Nomination Day will be on 5 December 2016.

“Registration for voters living in Constituency 26 will close on Monday, 21 November 2016 at 5:00 p.m. Voters can register online at or at the Parliamentary Registration office in Craig Appin house 3rd floor, #8 Wesley Street in the City of Hamilton.”

This by-election is being called due to the retirement of Marc Bean, who stepped down as both Leader of the Opposition and as a Member of Parliament.

The last by-election in Constituency #26 was called in 2010 following the resignation of former Premier Dr Ewart Brown, and saw a three-way race with the PLP, UBP and BDA.

Mr Bean won with 310 votes, United Bermuda Party candidate Devrae Noel-Simmons with 78 votes, while Sylvan Richards, then running under the Bermuda Democratic Alliance, got 70 votes.

In the 2012 General Election Marc Bean retained the seat with 65.08% of the vote vs Ras Mykkal [OBA]. The  2007 General Election saw Dr Ewart Brown [PLP] win 68.45% of the vote vs Roderick Simmons [UBP], while the 2003 General Election saw Dr Brown win with 65.99% of the vote vs Gwyneth Rawlins [UBP].

Neither party has announced their candidate yet, however both are expected to in the coming weeks.

Another landslide, they would need a good surrogate.

Depends on what color you are to see the truth behind his/her words!!

  2. Um.... says:

Hopefully both parties go young with candidates. Tired of familiar faces with tired old ideas.

  3. Unbelievable says:

I have no doubt the PLP will win this too.

    • Onion Juice says:

Not to fast, remember de Trump effect. They might have de same strategy here, they already used de 2000 job scam and de 14 years is played out.
But they will still fool some.

      • smh says:

Why don’t you run for that seat. Bermuda could use a good laugh right now

      • Say Whaat? says:

Warwick don’t have trump fans. so PLP should be good. Especially if the rumored candidate is true.

      • TRUE!!! says:

You know I keep hearing about the “Divide” caused by Trump like its brand new. There is no new divide. It’s been here the whole time. Trump’s campaign brought it to the forefront. The OBA is the same UBP.

      • serengeti says:

by the ‘Trump effect’, you mean the anti-foreigner racist hate party, right?

        • Rumsoak says:

          You wont get an answer

          • Onion Juice says:

No I mean de white-lash effect where majority off whites vote U.B.P and a large % off Blacks either dont vote or vote U.B.P.

            • what man says:

Onion Juice, you really don’t see the irony and hypocrisy in your statements do you? YOU are the Bermudian version of a Trump supporter, time and time again your party has shown this through anti-immigration acts, absurd remarks about foreigners and anyone who doesn’t look like you. This island has already turned around for the better, but you’d rather see our island burn and suffer under the PLP’s reign than see it succeed under the current government. Whatever mate, you die hard PLP supporters won’t be happy until its too late and this island turns into the next Haiti.

  4. Say Whaat? says:

Why is the election so close to Christmas?!? Are they planning on voters going away to give the OBA a chance? Why not Dec. 13th? Is the acting governor not a fan of the holiday?

    • wahoo says:

So PLP voters travel for Christmas and OBA voters stay here? December 13 I want to go states and do my shopping so that don’t work for me.

    • Just the Tip says:

To give enough time to get every thing sorted, to advertise and run the ‘campains’, time for people to make sure that they are registered, cause there is legisation that dictates how so they could hold such a thing.

Dunno but take a pick of those that just came to mind

    • Onion Juice says:

Those who have planned to go away can produce documatation and vote early.

  5. Terry says:

Warwick has more crime than most of the island.

  6. Up D hill says:

Vote OBA it’s the only way forward. The PLP are not capable to Govern they have proven that in everything they have done.
