Masterworks To Unveil 30th Anniversary Exhibit

January 5, 2017

[Updated] Masterworks Museum of Bermuda Art tonight officially unveils its 30th Anniversary Exhibit, entitled ‘Room with a View’.

Made up of four different displays, the collection will include some of the museum’s most treasured works from its vault, collected over the last three decades.

Tom Butterfield, Masterworks founder, said: “This is a very special exhibit and the notion behind it is that we had a number of topics we wanted to be able to put under one roof, in one room, and will be including a number of different points of view in that.

“What I hope people will take with them after seeing this is a very rare, rare experience encompassing the island’s past and present. By grouping together these topics we have a clear picture of the variety, depth and strength that this collection brings to Bermuda.”

The exhibit includes:

  • Bermuda 4 Sail – a collection honouring the island’s maritime history called ‘Bermuda 4 Sail’.
  • Gleizes, Hartley and Demuth – a celebration of the Centennial visit to Bermuda of modernist artists, including two Americans and one French artist.
  • Canada Eh? – a tribute to Canada’s 150th Anniversary of Confederation.
  • The 30th Anniversary Collection – made up of works by Bermudians, including some residents and former residents of the island, who have made a donation to the museum, including past Charman Prize Winners. Included is Vernon Clarke, Sharon Wilson, Dame Jennifer Smith, Sheilagh Head, Jonah Jones and many others.

An official opening reception will be held tonight at 5.30pm.

Masterworks will be celebrating its 30th Anniversary with a series of community events and exhibits throughout the year. For more information, visit www.bermudamasterworks.org.
