February 2, 2017

Transitioning from primary school to middle school can be a challenging task, and with that in mind Kids in Control Systems [KICS] by iAspirations Limited was invited by the PTSA Executive at the Clearwater Middle School to tackle this challenge and provide families with the necessary support and tools to help students.

“After learning of the success many students were having with KICS, I invited Ms. Angela Young to speak to our PTSA about her program and provide a proposal to host a pilot program at the Clearwater Middle School,” shared PTSA Vice President, Mrs. Kim Roberts.

“The response was fantastic and our PTSA Executive worked quickly to implement a registration drive. The rest, as they say, is history.”

The pilot program of the KICS “Saturday” Workshop: Note-taking & Studying Strategies will be held at the Clearwater Middle School for 6 weeks commencing Saturday, February 4, through to March 11, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

The afternoon time slot was chosen to accommodate those students who had previous commitments on Saturday mornings.

Students and parents alike will be given an array of tools to assist with note-taking, studying tips, managing workloads and finding balance as well as meeting deadlines.

Ms. Keisha Douglas, the Clearwater Middle School’s Principal said, “Partnering with KICS is a welcomed solution in aiding our students with the necessary tools to help them excel at school.

“Sometimes the transition into middle school is not easy and some students simply need tools to help them navigate through the maze.

“I applaud our hard working PTSA team for researching and providing our families with another solution to help alleviate the stress during these middle school years.”

Echoing these sentiments, Mrs. Nakisha Burgess, the PTSA President added, “Today’s students need the tools to ensure their success and I believe the KICS Workshop will provide these tools.

“The services Ms. Young provides are very beneficial and I am elated that my daughter and the entire body at the Clearwater Middle School have the opportunity to take part in it.”

Since its launch in July 2014, the KICS “Saturday” Workshop: Note-taking Studying Strategies program has graduated over 100 students and 55 parents from Bermuda’s private and public schools.

“Our KICS Workshop is one of our very popular and most sought after programs,” explained Ms. Angela Young, President of iAspirations Limited.

“The biggest appeal to the program is we allow parents to attend as well. Our informal research has shown that many parents do not know how to assist their children in the areas of note-taking and studying strategies so now they, too, can learn the necessary tools to reinforce at home.

“We offer easy, practical solutions that the students can immediately apply. The student transformations always leaves us in awe. It is very gratifying and we are thrilled to host our first pilot program at a local middle school, such as the Clearwater Middle School.”
