Friends Of Hospice’s ‘Hearts, Hats and High Tea’

February 9, 2017

Friends of Hospice will hold its Hearts, Hats and High Tea event on Saturday, February 25 from 2.00pm to 5.00pm at Windows on the Sound in the Fairmont Southampton.

A spokesperson said, “It’s time to celebrate the anniversary of Agape House Bermuda’s only palliative care hospice. Agape House provides 24-hour care to terminally ill patients and has proved to be a tremendous support for local families having to face the difficulty of knowing a loved one is facing a serious illness and is close to death.

“Founded on the premise that life is to be lived, even when face-to-face with death, patients and families have found great comfort and relief in using the service. Forty percent of the patients at Agape House are there for medication or pain management and are discharged home.”

“Specialist care is provided by the medical staff and support staff for patients and their families.

“Friends of Hospice is the charity that supports the work of Agape House. Following the success of Agape House’s 25th anniversary tea party last year, the event is being mounted again.”

“Attendees at the Hearts, Hats, and High tea event last year were so enthusiastic and called on us to make the affair an annual event,” said Friends of Hospice Executive Director Cathy Belvedere.

“We didn’t want to let them down and love the idea of celebrating Agape House’s anniversary every year.”

“I really encourage men and women to attend,” said event organiser Nikki Gurrett. “Sometimes we think a tea party is just for women, but it’s for everyone who wants to enjoy a bit of elegance and sophistication.

“For our event, while hats are important, they are not mandatory, but if you wear one, you could win a prize.”

“We invite the community to support this fun event and come out on a winters afternoon in February and support a worthy cause at the same time,” said Friends of hospice Programme and Volunteer Coordinator Jeelise Allen.

“This event is guaranteed to lift your spirits and make you feel pampered. Tickets would make a lovely Valentine’s gift if you are looking for something a little different.”

“Tickets are $75 and are available by calling 232-0859 or emailing info@hospice.bm. Tickets may also be purchased at Pulp and Circumstance in the Washington Mall. AS Coopers are offering at 20% discount if you purchase a hat; proof of ticket is required at the time of purchase.”
