Marine Expo Profile: The Marine Locker
In the second in a series of profiles of vendors who will be taking part in the St. George’s Marine Expo on Sunday, April 23rd, we spotlight Lyle Douglas, the Sales Manager of Marine Locker, Bermuda Marine Supply & Services.
1. What is the name of your company?
Bermuda Marine Supply & Services Ltd., which is also the parent company for our retail store Marine Locker.
2. What does your company specialize in?
Our first priority is customer service. We have a great Bermudian team specializing in boat, outboard and watercraft sales and service. Our main lines are Scout Boats, Evinrude G2 outboards, and Sea Doo watercraft plus an exciting new line of boats from Europe called Axopar.
3. How long have you been in the Marine Industry?
Personally 25 years
4. How has your company benefited from the Americas Cup?
Customers have been anxious to get their boats looking good and serviced for this summer earlier than ever. We have seen an increase in new engine sales to insure reliability for viewing the event, and an overall increased excitement in boating.
5. What advice would you give you an aspiring young entrepreneur?
No matter what school training you have done be prepared to start from the ground up. This will enable you to understand the industry as a whole and appreciate all that it takes to deliver customer service.
6. Why are you participating in the Marine Expo?
It’s our way to show off our products next to the competition and meet new and existing clients. It’s also a good day for all the staff to relax and enjoy people’s feedback on the products.
7. Why is the Marine Expo a good thing for Bermuda?
It’s a great family outing on the weekend that exposes everyone to the many marine activities and products old and new available in Bermuda. This is important for the ocean is our beautiful playground that we all should be able to experience one way or another.
The Bermuda Economic Development Corporation [BEDC], along with title sponsor RUBIS Energy Bermuda, will host the second annual St. George’s Marine Expo on Sunday, April 23 from 11.00am to 6.00pm.
