Bermuda Netballers Win One Game In New York

[Updated] Bermuda’s National Netball team are 1 and 1, with one game to play in the International Test Series against the USA.

Bermuda lost the first game against the USA 48 – 36, however bounced back to win the second game by a score of 40 – 36.

In the first of three matches, Bermuda started the match with GS -Danielle Raynor, GA – Ebonie Cox, WA – Arkeita Fubler, C – Dominique Richardson, WD – Demiqua Daniels, GD – Micah Pond, GK – Karlandra Smith

USA held a 2 goal lead at the end of the First Quarter with the score 10 – 8, in the Second Quarter the USA had extended their lead to  23 – 17, and the Third Quarter saw yet another increase to 10 with the score 36 -26. USA would then close out the match with a score 48 – 36.

The second game saw Bermuda make one change with Asante Chapman replacing Demiqua Daniels. GS -Danielle Raynor, GA – Ebonie Cox, WA – Arkeita Fubler, C – Dominique Richardson, WD – Micah Pond, GD – Asante Chapman, GK – Karlandra Smith.

Bermuda led this game from start to finish, with 21 goals from Raynor and Cox added 19 goals.

Bermuda led at the end of the First Quarter 14 – 5, they took a 22 – 14 lead into the half time break, Bermuda remained in control of the game with the score at 30 – 23 at the end of the Third Quarter 30 – 23, before closing out the game winning 40 – 36.

Update: In their final game of the three match series with USA, Bermuda finished in a tie at 36 – 36 with the host. Over the two tournaments Bermuda has taken part in over the last month they finish with a record of 4 wins, 3 defeats and 1 draw.

Bermuda lined up for the final game with GS -Danielle Raynor, GA – Ebonie Cox, WA – Arkeita Fubler, C – Dominique Richardson, WD – Micah Pond, GD – Asante Chapman and GK – Karlandra Smith.

Raynor led Bermuda with 26 goals, substitute Jahtuere Trott and Cox both scored 4 goals and another substitute Talia Lucas scored twice.

To decide a tournament winner since the series ended with both teams winning one, losing one and a draw the organizers used the calculated goal difference. Bermuda had 0.93 and USA had 1.07, meaning the island was just narrowly defeated.

Bermuda Netball President Kimale Evans said, “In the end USA won the tri-series but our Bermuda Longtails put on a glorious showing and a valiant effort. Bermuda should be proud of their team.”
