BEST Congratulates Bermuda’s IB Success

July 17, 2017

The Bermuda Environmental Sustainability Taskforce [BEST] is congratulating all of the Bermuda High School [BHS] and other 2017 International Baccalaureate [IB] success stories.

President & Chief Advocacy Officer of the Bermuda Environmental Sustainability Taskforce [BEST] Stuart Hayward said, “The Bermuda Environmental Sustainability Taskforce [BEST] congratulates all the BHS and other IB success stories. In particular we award our newly minted virtual Academic Excellence Award to Megan Sutcliffe, our favourite IB achiever and youth volunteer.

“We single out Megan because for the last five-and-a-half years she has been a junior member of the BEST Management Team. Megan was barely a teenager when she began volunteering with BEST.”

“We can’t count the many projects she has joined and/or led. She has been at different times our IT consultant, researcher, campaigner, sales-person, transcriber, receptionist, youth-consultant, girl-Friday, debater, parliamentarian, and more.

“Through it all, Megan has been our constant reminder that real wisdom is ageless. We have looked forward to hearing her views and sharing ours on current affairs, local and global politics, planetary environmental issues, and local activism.

“We reveled in the lucidity she displayed while writing opinion columns that were published in the Royal Gazette. We are still proud of the conduct of her first solo activism project to persuade local companies to turn off unneeded lights at night.

“We will miss her routine Thursday afternoon community service hours where Megan helped design, plan and fulfill the projects she did with and for us. We will miss her ever-ready ‘yes’ when we proposed a project or task.

“We will miss her lock onto whatever we proposed that left us assured she wouldn’t unlock until it was done. We will miss her brilliant intellect, her quick mind and ever bubbly demeanour.

“Megan has often thanked BEST for providing her with interesting and challenging projects and tasks. The better half of that story is our collective thanks to Megan [and her parents] for choosing BEST.

“In many ways it is a foundational validation for the BEST culture and environment that we were able to attract and hold such an amazing, vibrant and multi-talented young-adult through all her community-service years so far.

“Along with our Award, we wish Megan safety in her travels, joy in her studies, curiosity in her reading, credibility in her writing and a permanent buoyancy in every other aspect of her life.

“We’ll always have a place for you on the BEST team, Megan. Come back and see us when you can.”
