Philanthropy Workshop To Be Held November 10

October 29, 2017

The Association of Professional Fundraisers [Bermuda Chapter], in partnership with the Centre on Philanthropy, will be holding a half-day workshop by James Hodge titled ‘Shifting Philanthropy – From Raising Money to Deepening Meaning’ on November 10.

Bermuda AFP Chapter President Jennifer Burland Adams said, “As we look at the profession of raising funds in 2017 in Bermuda, we should focus on the importance of meaningful relationships with donors and embrace the shifting landscape in Bermuda.

“So many of our charitable organizations rely significantly on philanthropy if not entirely and some are struggling to maintain services. Jim has been facilitating meaningful conversations with donors his entire career and he is coming to Bermuda to share his insight, techniques and metrics that focus on meaningful philanthropic conversations.

“This workshop is for staff with significant fundraising responsibilities, charity board members, individual donors and donor committee members.”

Executive Director of the Centre on Philanthropy, Elaine Butterfield said, “With the shifting donor community in Bermuda and our recent drive for collaboration within the sector, Jim’s workshop comes at an ideal time. We welcome this opportunity to gather together and build a collaborative understanding of best practices in raising funds in Bermuda today”.

“There are both subtle and seismic shifts happening in the world of philanthropy and Social Impact Investments that require both attention and action on the parts of fundraising professionals, volunteers and board members,” said Jim Hodge, who has experience working with some of the top global philanthropists through his work at Bowling Green, Mayo and currently the University of Colorado’s Anschutz Medical Campus.

Jim Hodge’s recent TEDx talk titled ‘Philanthropy- A Whole Lot of Shift Needs to Happen’:

A spokesperson said, “Attendees can expect to learn day to day tactics to increase the number of donations received and metrics to use to report to your Executive Director and Board, including Person to Person visits [Shoulder to Shoulder]. It’s all about that personal connection and relationships; what are the questions that open our philanthropic conversations; and what is the strategy we have agreed to? – potential pathways to inspire action and innovation.”

The workshop costs $75 for AFP Bermuda Chapter and Centre on Philanthropy members and $100 for non-members. To register, call the Centre on Philanthropy at 236-7706 or contact Samantha Nearon by email at snearon@centreonphilanthropy.org.
