Police Confirm Death Of Rakai Augustus

The police have now confirmed the death of 30-year-old Rakai Augustus following the car collision late last night in St George’s.

A police spokesperson said, “The Bermuda Police Service can now confirm the death of 30-year-old Rakai Augustus and extends sincere condolences to his family and friends.

“Mr. Augustus was seriously injured around 11:40pm Saturday‎, October 28th when the car he was travelling in struck a wall in the Wellington Street, York Street St. George’s area between Rose Hill Street and Fort George Hill.

“He was rushed to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ‎ambulance but sadly, later pronounced dead.

“A 29-year-old woman said to be from Warwick and believed to have been driving the car involved in a westerly direction at the time was also hurt in the crash and transported to hospital via ambulance.

“At last check she was receiving treatment for injuries that are potentially serious but not believed to be life threatening.

“The damaged car has been impounded and the 29-year-old woman arrested on suspicion of impaired driving pending further inquiries.

“The investigation into this fatal crash, the 12th of 2017, continues and any witnesses that have not yet come forward are urged to contact the Roads Policing Unit on 247-1788.”
