Police Service Welcomes 12 New Constables

The Passing Out Parade for Recruit Foundation Course #78 took place yesterday at Police Headquarters in Prospect, with twelve new Constables welcomed to the Police Service.

In attendance at the ceremony were several dignitaries including Governor John Rankin, Attorney-General Kathy Lynn Simmons, U.S. Consul General Mary Ellen Koenig, Secretary for National Security Major Marc Telemaque, Regiment Commanding Officer Lt/Col David Curley, Commissioner of Corrections Lt/Col Edward Lamb, Collector of Customs Lucinda Pearman, Acting Chief Fire Officer Morris White, Commandant of the Bermuda Reserve Police Sandra Beach, Special Olympics Bermuda Alicia Zuill, and Police Chaplain Reverend Dr. Kevin Santucci

Twelve Constables were on parade, accompanied by the Bermuda Island Pipe Band under the command of Pipe Sergeant Aidan Stones. They were led by the Parade Commander and Drill Instructor Sergeant Derrick Golding.

There were several awards presented during the ceremony. The awards and recipients were:

Athletic Awards – The Instructors Cup is an award that is given to the fastest male and female officer over the International 10 kilometre or 6 mile Flatts road running course.

  • The Instructors Cup was presented to Constable Teriann Smith for the fastest time of 1 hour 16 minutes and 40 seconds in the female category.
  • The Instructors Cup was presented to Constable Daischon Chin for the fastest time of 45 minutes and 50 seconds in the male category.

All Round Athlete & Physical Fitness Awards

  • Constable Teriann Smith [female].
  • Constable Daischon Chin [male].

Deputy Commissioner’s Cup – This award is for the best effort on the course and the officer who has made the most significant progress.

  • Awarded to Constable Thomas Senior.

Charitable Presentation – It is a tradition of each Recruit Foundation Course to raise money in aid of a charity of their choice. All members of RFC #78 decided Special Olympics Bermuda would be this year’s recipient.

A cheque for $2,150 was presented to Ms. Alicia Zuill representing Special Olympics Bermuda. The money was raised during a car wash held by RFC #78.

Academic Award – Awarded to Constable Jah-Zico Douglas, who achieved an overall test average of 90.54%.

Commissioner’s Shield – Awarded to Green Syndicate led by Sergeant Derrick Golding; consisting of Constable Jah-Zico Douglas, Constable Kori Jackman, Constable Nathan Lawrence, Constable Teriann Smith and Constable Gregory Stienlet. The award was collected by Constable Gregory Stienlet.

Baton of Honour – Awarded to Constable Jah-Zico Douglas, who was selected as the most distinguished student officer by the Training Centre staff.

“On behalf of the Acting Commissioner of Police Mr. Antoine Daniels, the men & women of the Bermuda Police Service would like to congratulate and welcome these twelve new officers into the Bermuda Police Service family,” a spokesperson said.
