MP Dunkley: ‘I Am More Than Willing To Attend’

February 10, 2018

I “answered questions in the House while I was the Premier” and am “more than willing to attend before a duly constituted Parliamentary Joint Select Committee,” former Premier Michael Dunkley said, adding that “anything that MP Famous says that is contrary to this is a figment of his imagination or his prevarication.”

Mr Dunkley’s comments follow after Mr Dunkley was reported to have sent a letter to the Speaker about the Committee, and MP Chris Famous’ subsequent column on the matter.

Mr Dunkley said, “On December 1st 2017 the House of Assembly debated and approved a Motion for the appointment of a Joint Select Committee to carry out an inquiry into the events of December 2nd, 2016.

“The article dated February 9th by MP Chris Famous regarding this Motion contains misinformation and incorrect information.

“The Opposition did not object to the setting up of this PJSC. Why would we? We have always been open and transparent on this matter and are more than willing to answer any questions a duly constituted PJSC might have.

“I personally answered questions in the House while I was the Premier detailing my phone records during the time in question. I have said it publicly and to the Speaker as well that I am more than willing to attend before a duly constituted PJSC.

“Anything that MP Famous says that is contrary to this is a figment of his imagination or his prevarication.

“In a letter I wrote to the Speaker I simply questioned if the Standing Orders of the House and the Parliament Act had been followed by having it approved in both Houses.

“Part of our responsibility as the Opposition is to review all that comes to the legislature and make sure it adheres to the laws in place and the Standing Orders of the House.

“I am pleased that the Speaker has now ruled that the motion must go to the Senate.

“Finally on the issue of bias; Members of the PJSC have outside the House and during the debate shown bias and the Hansard [PDF] shows such.

“Former Attorney General MP Moniz rose twice on a point of order to raise this concern which was acknowledged by the Member. I look forward to a conversation with the Speaker on this matter and I am confident it can be resolved.”

When will the PLP get on with their responsibility to be improve the economy and lot of Bermudians, and get away from the 24/7 election mode? Where are the jobs for Bermudians they promised in their election mode? Why hasn’t the Peoples Campaign come out to protest lack of buses for school children and lack of garbage collection? So clear why not, they daren’t protest if it’s the PLP at fault.

    • Lovingit says:

PLP AND THE BRILLIANCE OF BURT ARE VERY CAPABLE OF CHEWING GUM AND WALKING AT THE SAME TIME..

Dunkley is running fast….his latest actions reveal clearly his attempts to stop the JSC….now that the Speaker put him on hold….he is doing at quick turn about to make it look like The Famous One is spinning….when in fact Spinning is all Dunkley ever does….

Stop it Dunkley and try a taste of Transparency for real……not false transparent chipping…….

      • Zevon says:

So where are the jobs they promised?
So far all they have achieved is buying themselves shiny new cars. Everything else they have done has been taking credit for what the OBA did, oh and restricting human rights of course.
        No jobs though. None.

        • Scientist says:

We have always been open and transparent LOLOLOL.

JET GATE was a start…..lets not talk about why you only won by 12 seats Sour Milk Man.

        • Lol says:

You don’t care about anyone getting any job. If you did you would have aimed that at your precious UBPOBA who promised two thousand over 5 years ago

      • Stevie says:

Wake up plp. You are screwing BDA yet again

        • Lol says:

How are they? Or you just another OBA troll spreading more rumors than reality.

  2. wahoo says:

It really is ridiculous how much time and energy is being wasted on this, but this is a tactic of the plp’s, creating drama and distraction when things far more important are happening. Stick to it Mr. Dunkley they must be held accountable.

  3. Justin says:

Will this committee meet in the light of public scrutiny or will this all happen behind closed doors?

  4. Point boy says:

Never had or never will be a supporter of the current government!!
    The most regressive party ever.
    Treating fellow citizens with disdain.

    Lightning before the thunder

  5. Jus' Askin' says:

What will happen after All of this?

    • Onion says:

Another PLP victory will happen. Meanwhile the real problems on the island will go unaddressed.

      But hey, don’t blame me.

  6. Curious says:

Hmmmm. So Dunks was right. It’s interesting the Speaker didn’t follow the correct process….

    • Stevie says:

You expect an answer from the speaker or PLP? Our version of Trump being an absoute arse. Unfortunately PLP supporters just like bunion juice are blind, stupid & dumb.

  7. Lol says:

Figment of his imagination but there are screen shots with you saying this that we all can go back and look at which we did and it proved famous right. OBA still using that lie and deny tactic like we are not in the age of information and we can bring up anything you say and do with the click of a mouse. Dunkley just sit down and stay retired.

    • jt says:

Screenshots of someone saying something – lol.
There’s plenty of video and audio of the actual event but some people seem intent on ignoring it.

      • Lol says:

And who is that? Because as we remember every time the OBA get caught out in a lie it’s everyone else that is lying. Dunkley, Baron, and Cannonaire said those things. The proof is there. So how you going to spin this one.

  8. puzzled says:

Famous is an activist and is slowly gaining support for the final chapter in the demise of Bermuda.

    • Mrs Brady says:

Final chapter indeed. Bermuda is about to fall into an abyss.

  9. ” My hands are tied.”
What precisely can be done with one’s hands tied.
    Absolutely NOTHING!!
It was cleverly stated to divert attention away from what was happening and openly accepting the oba’s dysfunctional , discriminatory and vicious goals.
Do pay close attention, BORN BERMUDIANS. All was never okay nor will it ever be with this dude.

  10. Oh Really says:

Famous is famous for getting his facts right. Why does he not get on with earning the paycheck he is earning. Want to talk talk about the missing funds, Port Royal etc etc. I cannot understand it the people were warned they did not pay attention so force was used simple. What other country would allow people to block government house without taking action. Come on people move gat working for the people who voted you in.

  11. Hey says:

There should be a motion of no confidence regarding the Speaker Denise Lister. Its quite evident that he is politically biased. The Speakers impartiality is required on matters of debate before the House, ensuring that both sides of the argument are heard, but it seems with Lister he is always cutting the OBA short in a sarcastic manner.

    • Hey says:

      Corr. Dennis Lister.

    • Toodle-oo says:

No matter what people will believe it’s been a very , very long time since we had a totally neutral speaker .
In fact probably the best one just passed away recently .

  12. Stevie says:

Wake up PLP supporters. Your idiots you voted for are screwing our country again

  13. puzzled says:

    Got milk?

  14. Alan P says:

Good, bad or indifferent; truthful, dishonest or disingenuous, Mr. Dunkley is an anachronism and more importantly an electoral liability who has twice led political parties to electoral disasters. Even amongst the more intelligent hard core OBA base, much like Mr. Bob Richards, he remains a divisive character. Prior to this past election, the murmurs of dissent and disapproval coming from the money folks behind the OBA machine were astonishing. What was clearly foregotten by the OBA leadership was that they barely won in 2012 against a weak PLP Government mired in scandal, economic decline, internal division, etc and winning any future election was never going to be an easy task – personal ambition and arrogance clearly put paid to that. Say what you will about Mr. Famous who I personally find very refreshing and likeable, he is the least of the Opposition’s problems. A long hard honest look in the mirror would be a good start for the OBA.
