FEI World Jumping Challenge To Take Place

February 11, 2018

Bermuda show jumpers will compete in the 40th edition of the FEI World Jumping Challenge [WJC]. The three competitions that comprise the 2018 FEI WJC will be held at the National Equestrian Centre on Vesey Street in Devonshire on the following dates:

  • Competition #1: Saturday 24th February 2018
  • Competition #2: Sunday 11th March 2018
  • Competition #3: Saturday 31st March 2018

The Challenge provides local jumper riders with an opportunity to compete in an international setting without having to leave their country. Riders from ten different geographical zones compete over the same jumping courses designed by an FEI appointed course designer. This year’s course designer is Mr. Jaime Morilla of Ecuador.

Competitions 1 & 2 will be judged by FEI Judge Judy Hagen of Bermuda and Competition 3 will be judged by FEI Judge Wendy Chapot Nunn of the USA and FEI Judge Judy Hagen of Bermuda.

Once again, team and individual classifications will be offered in the following jumping categories:

  • Category A: 1.20-1.30 m
  • Category B: 1.10-1.20 m
  • Category C: 1.00-1.10m

The three categories are open to all athletes from the beginning of the year in which they reach their 14th birthday. Twelve Bermuda riders will compete in this year’s FEI World Jumping Challenge, with representation in all three jumping Categories.

Bermuda was very successful in the 2017 FEI WJC with Philip Correia riding Emerson & Kirista Rabain riding Helsinki securing the overall top two Category A spots respectively in the Regional Zone 10 division. The top two Category A riders from each of the ten different FEI geographical zones are invited to compete in the FEI World Jumping FINALS, details of which are soon to be released by the FEI.

In addition to Philip & Kirista’s fine achievements, Vicki Steele riding All in One was the overall winner of Category B in the FEI’s Regional Zone 10 division while Casey Truran riding De Le Vega secured the 2nd spot in Category C of the FEI Regional Zone 10 division.

Spectators are most welcome and there is no admission charge. Further information can be found on the Bermuda Equestrian Federation’s website www.bef.bm as well as the FEI website at www.fei.org.
