Minister Foggo Congratulates Flora Duffy
The Acting Minister of Social Development and Sports Lovitta Foggo congratulated triathlete Flora Duffy on her gold medal win at the Commonwealth Games yesterday when she won the Women’s Triathlon event in Australia.
Minister Foggo said, “I am absolutely delighted for Flora! I hope she woke up this morning filled with pride and a sense of achievement over yet another incredible victory.
“She has proven herself time and time again on the international sporting scene and continues to make us proud to call her one of us. What makes this win so particularly spectacular is that this is only Bermuda’s second Commonwealth gold and the first ever medal won by a Bermudian woman; Flora’s friends and family must be ecstatic!
“I am very much looking forward to seeing her in action later this month as she competes on home soil at the ITU World Triathlon event.”
Yesterday, Flora finished in a time of 56:50, with England’s Jessica Learmonth claiming silver, 43 seconds behind.
Minister Foggo also extended her congratulations to Bermudians Tyler Butterfield who finished 18th in the men’s event, clocking a time of 55:51, while Tyler Smith clocked a time of 56:41 on his way to finishing 21st and Erica Hawley finished sixteenth in 1hr 3min 14sec.
