Police Media Manager Dwayne Caines said: “Police responded to a report of a road traffic collision that took place at 7:08pm today [Wednesday] on Lighthouse Road in Southampton.

“It appears that a taxi was traveling north on Lighthouse Road in the area of Henry VIII Restaurant when it appears that the driver lost control of his taxi resulting in the taxi flipping over.

“The driver exited the taxi on his own accord however the female passenger [a tourist] had to be extricated out of the taxi by the Bermuda Fire and Rescue Service.

“Both the driver of the taxi and the passenger were taken to the hospital and at this time their injuries are unknown but they are not believed to be life threatening.

“Lighthouse Road has been cordoned off while the scene is being processed by the relevant officers.”

I really wish we could read the police report on this one. It’s bound to be a doozy.

  2. puzzled says:

    Must he Henry’s swizzles…..

    • JT says:

@puzzled and Family man…you both need to shut your mouth and be quiet ok. Unless you know the circumstances then refrain from making comments. For your information the driver was not driving and neither does he drink. All you people do is come on here and make negative comments about people. Why don’t you ALL go do some work or something constructive or positive. Sick of people like you!!!

      • JT says:

        correction: not drinking

        • Uncle Fester says:

@JT – “The driver was not driving” – maybe that was the problem all along??
If you’re going to tell someone to shut up, you might want to take time to make sense yourself.

You have a great day now.

          • JT says:

@Uncle Fester maybe you need to read under that comment were is clearly states “CORRECTION…NOT DRINKING”!!! So you need to go and get your eyes fixed to learn how to scroll down and read some more!!! Now you shut up!!!

          • RA says:

If you had noticed it was a correction.

  3. James says:

All public service vehicles should have cameras front and back. It is so cheap to do these days. Under $100 and all these mysterious taxi collisions will be explained.

    • Reuben says:

Just a small point but in Bermuda a taxi is not a public service vehicle, its a small business.

      • JT says:

@Reuben FYI….a taxi is considered to be a public service vehicle because when you go to TCD to renew your license you have to renew it under a public service vehicle license.

  4. Alafiyah says:

You would think that people would be more concerned about the tourist and the driver’s condition. I know this person. He DOES NOT DRINK. His business is now a write-off – Do you care, if so shut up! Until you naysayers of small Bermuda’s gossipers, need to chill and STOP making assumptions. Got anything else to say as reporters of ‘Bermuda No Common Sense Community!!

    • Micro says:

Well you sure don’t simply crash a car while in complete care and attention of the vehicle.

      • RA says:

True however you can’t go on speculation you weren’t a witness. So don’t judge.

      • RA says:

So in that case you need the facts Yah!

    • RA says:

      I agree

The problem is that a lot of people don’t realize how heavy these vans are in the front. The weight is not distributed evenly as these vans are also very long. Care must always be taken when stopping suddenly or when negotiating turns.
I used to be a taxi driver/owner and when I got my van it was a new driving experience compared to my smaller taxi.

  6. Kyrah Mendes says:

If only you rude people put your real names up for the profile. The driver has family. No one knows what happened so keep your comments to yourself, coming from someone that has been in an accident that wasn’t caused by me, I know that things can happen on the road that you have no control of. You must be a really miserable person to write a bad comment about an accident period.

    • JT says:

Thank you Kyrah! I know the driver as he is married to a family member and he’s a decent person at that. He does not drink! The people on here making derogatory comments clearly have NO LIFE and are MISERABLE!! All they do is sit at their computer or get on their Ipads/phones daily and wait for stories to be posted on Bernews so they can start the negative comments. Freak accidents can happen to anyone even those making negative comments on here. They better be careful how they post and speak ill and negative things about people, especially those they know nothing about!! Karma is real and come back to slap them right in the face and the same thing can very well happen to them or their family members!! Thank God it wasn’t any fatalities. I PRAY for a speedy recovery for all involved.

  7. Stevie says:

Who was at fault. The driver. Get over of it.

    • OG says:

@Stevie go do something constructive and get a damn life!!! Do you have a job to go to or are you sitting at home being miserable? Which one huh?
