Annual Junior Fishing Tournament On August 19
The Bermuda Anglers Club Annual Junior Fishing Tournament will be held on Sunday [Aug 19] and is open to any boys and girls under the age of 17. It is free to enter and fishing starts at 8.30am.
Prizes are up for grabs in several categories for boys and girls, which include fishing from the shore or from a boat and using a rod and reel or hand line. Every child who has entered the event and who comes to the weigh station west of the flagpole on Front Street will receive a free t-shirt.
Tournament Director Kip Froud said, “We are very fortunate to have a great group of sponsors for the Junior Fishing Tournament as well receiving additional support from people who want to get kids involved in fishing on the island. We want to hold an event where kids from right across Bermuda can participate and enjoy time with their friends and family members”.
“The event is a fantastic opportunity for kids, parents and guardians from all parts of our community to mix with one another in a relaxed and fun filled atmosphere.
Froud noted, “We very much appreciate the support we have received from One Communications, International Financial Planning and H&H Plumbing and Mechanical to make this event possible.”
The organisers said, “This year the Bermuda Anglers Club has been able to really expand the prizes on offer. H&H Plumbing and Mechanical have generously sponsored the prize for the child winning the offshore category.
“One Communications have sponsored the top school prize. That prize sees $500 awarded to the PE program of the school with the most children registered to participate in the event. International Financial Planning have made a generous financial contribution to assist with the cost of the free t-shirts and have also volunteered to help at the weigh in.
“Over 100 kids from across the Island are expected to participate and interest in this event is proving to be strong with many participants now entering online. The youngest participant registered so far is the tender age of two.
“Participants can either enter online by visiting here, by completing a downloadable entry form and emailing it back to the Club, or by dropping entry forms at C-Mart, Robinson’s Marina or Dowling’s Marine Service Station. You can follow the Bermuda Anglers Club on Facebook or on Instagram [@bermudaanglers].”
