Bermuda Wins Gold At Cycling Championships

Bermuda is hosting the 2018 Junior Caribbean Cycling Championships this weekend and things got underway this morning [Aug 11] at Clearwater Beach with Bermuda dominating the top podium spots at the Individual Time Trial.

Bermuda riders took all three gold medals, “a first for our country and probably the first time any country has so dominated the podiums”, according to Peter Dunne of the Bermuda Bicycle Association.

Bermuda’s Alyssa Rowse placed first in the Junior Women Category with a time of 15:57.0 while Taralee Ordonez from Belize came second in a time of 17:22.0. Silviene Gonzalez from Aruba placed third with a time of 17:23.9.

Nicholas Narraway from Bermuda placed first in the Juvenile Men Category with a time of 14:18.7. Josué Alemén from Puerto Rico came second in a time of 14:43.3 while Joshua Krozendijk from Aruba placed third with a time of 14:47.4.

Kaden Hopkins from Bermuda placed first in the Junior Men Category with a time of 26:16.1 while Abner Gonzalez from Puerto Rico came second in a time of 27:44.4. Enrique De Comarmond from Trinidad and Tobago placed third with a time of 27:46.9.

Tomorrow [Aug 12] is the road race which starts at 8.00am starting from Prospect in Devonshire, using Middle Road to Flatts and then back along North Shore Road to Palmetto Road and Frog Lane.
