Car Crashes Through Wall In Southampton

August 25, 2018

[Updated] Emergency services responded to a collision in the Riviera Estate area of Southampton this morning [Aug 25] which involved a car crashing through a wall and on to an embankment.

Bermuda Fire and Rescue Service, police and an ambulance attended, assisting the driver who we understand was transported to King Edward Memorial Hospital. Bystanders said the driver did not appear to have any serious injuries. Further details are limited at this time, however we will update as able.

Update 9.56pm, Aug 26: A police spokesperson said, “Around 10:10am Saturday, August 25th police and fellow first responders were dispatched to a reported single vehicle car crash on Riviera Road in Southampton, near the Railway Trail.

“It appears that the car involved was being driven along Riviera Road when it struck and damaged a wall before going over an embankment. The driver, believed to be an 82 year old Southampton man, was apparently unhurt and able to get out of the vehicle on his own.

“However, the driver was transported to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance for medical assessment as a precaution due to a pre-existing medical condition.

“The damaged car was later towed away. Any witnesses are asked to call the main police telephone number 295-0011.”

Are we ever going to get proper guard rails installed on our roads. You know, the type that actually keep vehicles on the road.
