ESTU Express Gratitude For Support Received

October 21, 2018

Following a meeting held last night with the Premier, Ministers, and Ascendant Board members, the Electricity Supply Trade Union [ESTU] have expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support that they have received.

ESTU President Donald Lottimore said, “Good day to the people of Bermuda, we, the members of the Electricity Supply Trade Union, would like to express our gratitude for the outpouring of support that we have received.

“Even in the face of the extreme hardship that the loss of electrical power would entail, the continued endorsement of the goals we set in protecting Bermudian jobs now and in the future has been heartening.

“Over the last several weeks we have been buoyed by the messages of encouragement and the random acts of kindness we have received from the community. The ESTU would like to acknowledge and thank those members of the public who dropped off food and water while our members were actively engaged in standing up for their rights.

“We would be remiss if we did not acknowledge the individual ESTU members who made themselves available for service as duty called, often at the last minute and frequently at great personal sacrifice and inconvenience. Your commitment is much appreciated.

“Our work is not yet complete as the details are still to be finalized. The Premier, David Burt, various Ministers, and certain Bermuda business leaders have been instrumental in bringing the parties closer together.

“We would like to thank the Bermuda Trade Union Congress for their wise counsel throughout this process. It is our hope that we can continue to make strides in the right direction.

“We will continue to keep the public informed as developments warrant.”

I wonder what ESTU, the Beco workers and the people of Bermuda will think when the Big news comes.

Dennis Lister…PLP members in the know. Care to comment!?

Change is coming, You fools were all scammed LOL.

  2. Infidelguy says:

After all of that they’re right back to where they started. And this is what they call progress? I won’t be surprised if in another couple weeks we see another flair up and more threats of industrial action.

    • Vote for Me says:

Lets wait for the details before deciding if they are back where they started… perhaps there was more progress than we know at this time..

    • Onion Juice says:

Well if thats de case, you know what to expect next time.
Dont start no S#!t wont be no S#!t.

      • Question says:

What will happen? Another illegal strike on a Saturday?

        • Onion Juice says:

As a People, from slavery until the Civil Rights Movement we ALWAYS broke the law to make a statement when we felt abused.
Get over it, aint nothing new.

          • Toodle-oo says:

            Oh boo hoo ..
And you’re still breaking the law .

          • sandgrownan says:

But you’re not being abused in this case. I know it doesn’t fit your narrative, but this is pure economics.

The next CEO, whomever he or she is, will need to make the same tough choices. No amount of marching, frothing at the mouth will change that.

            Onion Juice
How do you feel about the island needing more workers [foreigners] to pay taxes etc?
You agreed that ef gordon was an expat but that was acceptable
Why, you either have a stand against foreigners or you don’t or do you pick and choose?
            What about non Bermudian Tweed?

          • cpm says:

This is part of our problem because people like you think it is ok to break the law
My children are brought up to respect the law

      • Me Please says:

is that some form f a threat baby

  3. 2 Bermudas says:

You should be thanking us because we are all now paying more for Belco than we should be!!! De titty milk is real!! Ha ha ha!!

  4. Predictable says:

Um, No. Talk about a reality distortion zone.

  5. cpm says:

What a pile of you know what
Hopefully you will not be paid for time off

  6. Retro says:

“ great personal sacrifice” is this for real ? Are etsu part of the philanthropic society? I hope somebody in their orbit told them how damaging their threats can be to Bermuda.

  7. MM says:

I think that if the issues are genuine and that workers job security threatened d, or perceived to be under threat, it needs to be sorted out, too often there is a lot of abuse, too, too much, and li ttle redress. There are some very specifi c points or situations that should be put forward to a third party, I think arbitra tion is the way forward, we shall await any further developments during the course of this week. A court injunction has been served, government has stepped in, let’s see how it goes.

  8. wahoo says:

Any words from the two people who were made redundant? Did they get their jobs back? After all that is what this was all about right?

  9. Stevie says:

The writing is on the wall

    • Mark says:

For the whole island – with morons leading the mindless masses and supporters like Onion Juice in the gene pool we are doomed. Stock up on Pedigree and used tires.

      • Stand for Truth says:

It is people like you who do not have a legitimate comment or point who revert to name calling which is very child like.

        • Mark says:

It is people like you who are gutless and hide behind a pen-name. The point is clear as day – we are doomed with Unions beyond the law, a government that is two cans short of a six-pack and anonymous trolls like you and Onion Juice who are only too happy to drink the Koolaid.

  10. ConcernedBermudian says:

What outpouring of support are you talking about? Your members didn’t even want to support your illegal strike, you just bullied them into striking. Most Belco workers do NOT support this action, but they have no choice.

  11. Mr.Tesla says:

How bout locomotive engines that turn electrical turbines (as on locomotive), that in turn turn turbines to produce electricity…double turbine.
Or …there is a new engine with opposing pistons that burns less fuel (deisel), reduction of 40%.

  12. Mr.Tesla says:

Profits at the back end take forsite.

  13. Triangle Drifter says:

Watch how fast that support disappears as soon as BELCO customers lose power for one reason or another & there is no hope of timely restoration of power. Wait for food to go bad in fridges & watch that support melt away real fast.
