Argus Sponsors Bermuda Half Marathon Derby
The Bermuda Half Marathon Derby Committee welcomes Argus as its new lead sponsor as it celebrates 110 years.
Derby Committee President, Dr. Gina Tucker said, “I am simply thrilled about this celebratory year and am extremely grateful for the support shown by Argus as our new lead sponsor.
“Our shared legacies of commitment to the health and wellness of our community create a perfect partnership to take the Derby to the next level. We have so much in store for both the running and broader community and I encourage everyone to be part of the celebration. This year is sure to be the biggest and best yet.”
“Registration and full details can be found on the new website www.bermudamarathon.bm and updates and content will also be shared on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook.
Executive Vice President, Client Solutions, Wanda Richardson of the Argus Group added, “We are extremely excited to support the Bermuda Half Marathon Derby as lead sponsor. It is important to us that we support events that share our interests.
“As a highly regarded event on the Bermuda athletic calendar, the Derby has encouraged physical well-being and cultivated strong community spirit year after year. We value the opportunity to partner with the Derby on its 110th anniversary. Argus is proud to be part of its continuing story.”
“With the support of Argus and other valued sponsors Burrows Lightbourn Ltd., BGA Wholesale Distributor, Appleby, RUBiS Energy Bermuda, Rayclan Limited, Beyond Fitness Bermuda, Bermuda Skyport Corporation, Fairmont Southampton, The Reefs, Smiler’s Tuning & Repair, Travel Edge and the People’s Pharmacy, the Derby Committee is on track to reignite the community spirit originally set alight in 1909 on the day the first race was run.
“To broaden the participation and engagement of the community and in recognition of the Derby’s 110th anniversary, many exciting new initiatives will be launched this year including:
- The “You Can Win!” Programme: Become eligible to win a grand prize if you are a first time Derby runner, a volunteer, or register early.
- The “Derby Expo”: Be a vendor during the number pick-up on Saturday, 18th May from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm.
Dr. Tucker added, “We are truly appreciative of all of our generous sponsors for this year and those of yesteryear. We would not have made it to 110 years without them. I am pleased to disclose that the Derby has donated close to $110,000 to local charities and deserving individuals since 2007. With the help of the whole community, we can continue to make an impact.”
“This year, the Derby will be held on Friday, May 24th. The route will start in Town Square, St. George’s at 9:00 a.m. and end in Bernard’s Park in Pembroke. Participants can choose between running the full Derby or joining a relay team.
“The minimum age for participation is 16 years for the full race and 12 years for the relay. A commemorative medal will be awarded to the first 700 individuals and the first 100 relay teams to finish the race. A ferry to the start line in St. George’s will be available at a cost of $4.00 and can be purchased at the number pick-up on Saturday, 18th May from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm.
“Registration costs start at $55.00 before May 11th and increase thereafter. Online registrations can be submitted on the website and paper registrations are accepted at Sportseller at the Washington Mall in Hamilton. Participants are encouraged to sign up early to join in on one of Bermuda’s best running events of the year.”
