Court: Man Sentenced To 30 Years In Prison
Czech Republic national Josef Vlcek has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for importing over $9.5 million worth of heroin.
Vlcek was previously found guilty by a jury of importing the heroin, which the court heard marked the largest volume of heroin ever imported into Bermuda for which there has been a trial, according to ZBM news.
Prosecutors had told the court the sentence imposed on the defendant should be strong as he was wholly responsible for the crime, with the prosecutors further pointing out the highly addictive nature of the drug.
Vlcek was caught with the drugs in his suitcase a the LF Wade International airport by customs officer in September 2017.
