38-Yr-Old Arrested After Boat Runs Aground

A 38-year-old man was arrested early this morning [May 10] on suspicion of piloting or being at the helm of a boat while impaired, after a boat had run aground in waters off Spanish Point Pembroke, according to police.

A police spokesperson said, “Around 4am today [May 10th] marine police responded to a maritime distress call regarding a boat that had run aground.

“The powerboat involved was located on the rocks near Cobbler’s Cut, in waters off Spanish Point Pembroke, with two men aboard.

“The men – said to be a 38-year-old Pembroke man and a 43-year-old man – were not hurt.

“Both were taken on to the attending police vessel and transported to safety.

“The 38-year-old man was later arrested on suspicion of piloting or being at the helm of a boat while impaired.

“He was subsequently released on police bail pending further inquiries and a court appearance is anticipated in due course.”
