Video: People Already Marking Spots For May 24

May 9, 2019

It may be over two weeks away, but people are already claiming ‘their spots’ for the upcoming Bermuda Day holiday, with numerous markings to be seen on parts of the race and parade routes.

There are multiple spots marked on the always popular Cedar Avenue location, as well as other locations along the route, as the long standing unofficial tradition of claiming viewing spots for the annual holiday is underway.

  1. Lee says:

    Hey, leave my spot alone!

  2. JohnBoy says:

    Isn’t this littering?

  3. Richard A says:

Guess who is going to “collect” all that duct tape this weekend!?! nice try street markers.

  4. Kim Smith says:

This is a traditional practice but could those camps please remove the tape at the end of the day so that it isn’t just left on the sidewalks for months afterwards? Thank you.

    • Trufth says:

So because we have littered and called it tradition, it’s ok?

And we should clean it up at the end of the day so it isn’t there for months afterwards, but it can be there for a month prior to the parade?

      Some traditions need to end.

  5. COH Engineer(Not) says:

Yay!!! I have super wide sidewalks now on my parade route that will hold lots more trash that can be left behind by us lot. Thanks COH

  6. question says:

    Entitlement

  7. Mark says:

Can someone tell me where OJ’s tape is so I can put OBA on top of it?

  8. Rebecca says:

One by one Im going to start pulling them up this weekend.

  9. Ringmaster says:

Leave them there until the night before then remove them so the parade route is open to all, and not a few inconsiderate people.

  10. Idea says:

I think the government should create formal spots for sale and the proceeds donated to charity. People get a nice spot and donate to a good cause at the same time.

  11. Rubles says:

COH can make money to sipport the city if the carge a minimal fee. $10 per square. This can help keep their staff employed etc. Im willing to pay for a spot. Every year its a fight or argument on cedar ave. We all need to come together.

    • Rubles says:

      Excuse the spelling errors.

      • Bermudian all the way says:

I agree if you want that spot pink up the dollars

  12. Rockfish# 2 says:

This marking of territory has gone too far and certainly would not be tolerated anywhere else.
Why do the powers that be, allow this selfish behaviour?

    • JohnBoy says:

So what happens if I get there early and my family is in a marked spot? In all fairness I was there 1st.

  13. Dread says:

    Only in Bermuda

  14. PBanks says:

Silver lining is that at least they’re not using spray paint anymore. Small mercies, I guess.
