OBA Condemns Threats To LGBTQ Community

June 26, 2019

The One Bermuda Alliance today condemned threats on social media made against members of the LGBTQ community and called on the public to help police track down the offenders.

Senator Dwayne Robinson said: “Regardless of how you feel, it is not acceptable to make threats like this.

“Members of the LGBTQ community should be free to express themselves without having to face that kind of hostility. It reflects badly on us a people that we cannot be tolerant of others.

“I would urge the public to assist the police in their investigations and would ask that the Government also condemns these threats.”

Commissioner of Police Stephen Corbishley previously said, “I am also aware of a minority of social media comments currently in circulation that threaten or suggest violence towards the LGBTQ community.

“We are now investigating these posts and action will be taken against those responsible.”

  1. toadinthehole says:

He asked Govt to condemn the threats … waiting …

    • Double S says:

They didn’t condemn the death threats spray painted on North Shore a few months back (they just condemned the manner in which the threats were communicated).

So don’t expect the PLP to bat an eye lid at their base threatening others once again. They are who they are and they hate who they hate.

    • Ha! says:

Don’t hold your breath for that one

      • White Lies vs Black Lies says:

Don’t hold your breath on the oba either they didn’t do crap for us when in POWER, but now they act like they change their minds.

My friends if the next election came down to giving the LBGT what we wanted a long time ago and them winning……..trust me this group would prefer to be Govt and do nothing for us again.

So Dwayne can say all the bloody lies he wants on social media.

    • wahoo says:

That is a tricky one isn’t it? Let’s ask each one individually how they feel.

    • Rog says:

demands for governments to “condemn” things is shallow and silly.

If they don’t condemn a subject after being asked, then they are guilty in the court of public opinion as being a supporter of that subject, and if they do condemn it then you have to question whether it’s honest or not…

  2. oH, PLEASE.
    tAKE A back SEAT!!!
After you all viciously ATTEMPTED to destroy BORN BERMUDIANS for the sake of YOU.
    RIDICULOUS ACCUSATIONS!!
    GET OVER IT!!!
    BYE…BYE!!!

    • Toodle-oo says:

What the **** are you talking about ? “After you all viciously ATTEMPTED to destroy BORN BERMUDIANS for the sake of YOU.”

You seriously need to be on some meds .

      • TO Toodle..oo:
Yes, BORN BERMUDIANS…You clearly do not like that….hence, It will be used as often as wished. You give your opinion. From this end, facts are given. To ___ with ya!!
        Get the _____ over it!!!

        • wahoo says:

Straightforward I do not like you telling people that you are a born Bermudian so please stop referring to yourself that way. I am a born Bermudian and I am sure I am nothing like you. You make me sick.

        • Mike Hind says:

          I’m a BORN BERMUDIAN…
And I have no idea what you are saying here. It looks like just a string of words pretending to be a sentence.

As for “Getting over it”, shouldn’t you lot, the ones that have lost, time and again, in court, when you try to hurt Born Bermudians for absolutely no reason, “Get the _____ over it”?

    • Question says:

You really need to lay off the sauce.

  3. Kevin says:

They cant be seen to being sympathetic towards the LBGTQ community they will lose a big % of their religious voter base ….but let a union member have an issue with disciplinary action by an employer …they will roll out the pay for crowd and unions will threaten to shut the island down…. no this government aren’t here for all Bermudians …only selected ones ….those who vote for them no matter how bad they

    • White Lies vs Black Lies says:

Neither oba or plp will be sympathetic my friend.

  4. becareful of the truth says:

Very strange how the OBA can defend this but still havent said word on the Morgans Point issue that they sold US on
Yes Mr Cannonier hide ftom the truth and protect your interest

    • Question says:

The PLP screwed up the economy, and investment stopped. It ain’t that hard to understand,

    • Kevin says:

becareful……..its still early days Morgans Point still may be a Jewel rather than a thorn…the important factor is yes the OBA created an opportunity for Tourism Growth …also they started the St. Regis in st. Georges …also snapped up the AC that pumped 100 of millions of $$ into our economy and we still are seeing benefits in tourism from the outstanding TV coverage ….lets turn to the circus in charge now ………….nope didn’t think you’d come up with anything ….and as for this 2nd tier golf event Zane bought …I can only hope we at least get our money back ….but somehow if its a plp endeavor not a chance

    • Red rose says:

What has morgans point got to do with this

    • Double S says:

You mean the one that has financing and has created jobs as well as adding to our depleted hotel inventory? That Morgan’s Point issue?

    • Jt says:

Very strange that you see any connection on the two issues.

    • sandgrownan says:

Fun fact….Morgan’s Point would have been developed in 1999 had it not been for the PLP, specifically Terry Lister.

The PLP, reducing Bermuda to rubble for 20 years.

  5. Joe Bloggs says:

“and would ask that the Government also condemns these threats.”

I would go further and ask all politicians to condemn all forms of discrimination and intimidation against any segment of our community.

  6. Flip says:

    OBA: We condemn these threats
Also OBA: Creates a referendum that feeds into hatred and bigotry

    • No to SSM says:

The real oba aka UBP doesn’t give a flip about the LBGTQ.

      • Joe Bloggs says:

That may be true, but at least the UBP/OBA is not seeking to enshrine discrimination against the LBGTQ community into law.

Our current PLP Government is appealing to the Privy Council to make such discrimination mandatory!

    • Come Correct says:

Created a referendum that feeds into hate and bigotry? I fail to understand this. I could say any educated person, but even myself with only a GED, knew that the referendum was literally a waste of my time to go tick a box because the Bermuda constitution would over rule it anyway.

If you wasted your time going there to tick a box I have some unfortunate news for you. In the words of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson….IT DOESN’T MATTER.

  7. ROGER LAMBERT says:

A March on the same day as the LGBQT march by those who voted against same sex marriage & the lifestyle would continually let Bermuda & the world know this is a democratic society with beliefs. And we can show our feelings for preserving marriage between a Man & A Woman peacefully. We all do wrong, but it don’t mean those wrongs cannot be protested.

  8. Me says:

Disappointed in Premier Burt had a huge opportunity to be our best one ever and unify this country well whatever he aint ever gonna be an Obama anyway sad smh ….next money always clouds them
