Bermudian ‘Stealing The Show’ In London Play

August 6, 2019

Julia Frith copyBermudian actress Julia Frith isn’t sure if this technically constitutes her West End debut, or if it’s actually her sophomore outing. But either way she’s back to her scene-stealing ways in the hit London stage show The Comedy About A Bank Robbery.

She was cast in the British and Irish touring production of the play in 2018 as professional con woman Caprice Freeboys, the hit show’s leading lady. The 24-year-old Bermudian then temporarily filled in in that role in the London production late last year.

But earlier this summer she joined the London cast on a full-time basis. Ms Frith will be appearing in the show until at least 2020.

Now in its third year at London’s Criterion Theatre, critics have praised the freewheeling comedy about an attempted jewel heist in 1958 Minneapolis.

The show received five star reviews from critics for such leading British publications and websites as The Telegraph, The Times, Radio Times, Sunday Telegraph and WhatsOnStage.

The Telegraph said: “Quite simply, this is the funniest show in the West End. You keep thinking this is as good as it gets – then it gets better”.

The Times declared the show “a fast and fabulous comedy caper, a joyful night out.”

One of the hottest tickets in London since it opened, The Comedy About A Bank Robbery was also nominated for Best New Comedy at the 2017 Olivier Awards, the London theatre world’s equivalent of Broadway’s Tony Awards.

Ms Frith is a veteran of many local theatrical shows, including Troika Bermuda’s 2014 production of Beauty and the Beast.

The actor/singer/model has also worked with Bermuda’s Rockfire Productions, appearing in its spectacular live shows as both a fire spinner and what she jokingly describes as “the island’s first professional mermaid.”

In 2015 she staged a well-received one-woman show at the Bermuda Musical & Dramatic Society’s Daylesford Theatre to help her raise funds so she could attend drama school in the UK.

Ms Frith joined the cast of the Comedy About A Bank Robbery shortly after graduating from England’s Rose Bruford College.
