Malachi Jones Moves Up Cup Match Charts
[Written by Don Burgess]
Marvelous Malachi Jones keeps adding to his legendary legacy.
This past Cup Match, Jones took five wickets which leapfrogged him from 16th to ninth on the Most Wickets taken chart for the Classic.
Jones now has 48 wickets as he surpassed Cup Match legends, O’Brien Simons, Alma’ Champ’ Hunt, Dwayne ‘Sluggo’ Leverock, Kenny Paul, Sheridan Raynor, Amon Hunt, and Arthur Simons.
Two and three wickets ahead of him are Nathaniel’ Knocks’ Proctor, Walter Darrell, and Carlton Welch respectively.
At just 30-years-old, Jones still has plenty of time to climb the list and reach the top five.
The last person to claim at least 50 wickets in Cup Match was Clarence Parfitt, who finished his Cup Match career in 1981 with 114, and one would have to go back to the 1950s to find others who reached that milestone.
Mally is an absolute legend!! People always want to paint his name in a negative light but this guy loves the game and proves year in and year out that he is one of Bermuda’s best cricketers. Continue to shine my boy; they can’t take these stats away from you. As easy as it is to bash him for negative things, let’s all get behind him and praise him for his continued excellent performances
